Core Duo XPS

Sorry, I don't have any real info, but I was poking around inside a 9400 today and I noticed solder pads for fan, lid, and speaker LEDs. Also, there's room for another heat pipe. So, I view this as pretty strong evidence that Dell plans a core duo update of the M170. (Some people were speculating that the next XPS might be a 19- or 20-inch model.)

u think itll just be an updated board in the same chasis?

Well, they've definitely planned for that possibility. Perhaps with an even crazier video card.

i talked to dell chat support before and they admited a new dual core xps system (i was aruging with them about installing a 7800 GTX in my system) they said it would be like a month, i have the chat log if you guy swant ot know the model number.

edit: XPS M1710

he also said it will included more performance features, or something vague like that.

Yes. What's the model number?
Please post that chat log...
chat logs mean nothing. most of the dell chat techs are full of it. they dont really know anything but scripts.

ive dealt with many on end, and they all just type to make the customer happy.

sure they will hint at stuff, but they dont know.

Hi!
I'am very excited with the inclusion of the bcm43xx driver in FC5 , I
want to replace the venerable but awkward ndiswrapper driver,
unfortunately the driver doesn't work for me and freeze my computer:

I have a laptop DELL Precision M60 with :

Hmm...seems like people with a e1705 maybe able to make a dirrect upgrade to the Core Duo XPS version without much trouble, eh Dellbert?

A 17" XPS model will arrive before the "possibility" of a 20" mobile gamer machine is released.

As for it using a similar board... Dell always keeps it's options open. And looking at the 9300/XPS compatibilities, the likeliness of upgrades to be had from the next XPS are similar to that of the 9300 owners.

19" 20" XPS hmm that sounds extremely funny

i hope dell won't release such machine
The 20 inch (2010) is likely to be the concept model they showed at some recent tech show (CES?). It was a big clamshell thing with a large handle at the fold, wireless keyboard and mouse, and weighed about 20lbs (as I remeber). IT's basically supposed to be a hip lan party thing.

I'd love to think there is good upgrade path for the XPS but I'm not confident that XPS owners will enjoy the level of modifications that 9300 owners were able to achieve.

ATI are introducing a 9800GTX equivalent for dual core processors with 20 partners in April. 9800 SLI is also available with 19" screens. Dell have lost the advantage they gained from exclusivity agreement with nVidia 6800Ultra.

Best upgradable option from Dell could well be the 9400 (is that e1750 in US?)

Yes. The pin configuration is different. So it is better to go dual core. The vid cards will come. I am looking forward to modding my to a 7900 GTX super uber go card... And if not it's not like the 7800 go is too shabby...

i am holding out for the xps mobile concept. 20 inch uxga screen, dual hardrives with raid, 8 speakers, but sadly no news on graphics yet. if it has sli i am sold.
