Known Screen Issues - Page 5

I just purchased my first notebook, a Dell i8600 with the Hitachi screen. Right off, I noticed slight (but still enough to be annoying) bleeding along the bottom of the LCD, which is only really noticeable when that section is a dark color, such as black while watching a widescreen DVD. Considering what I've read, this is an LCD issue, correct? I'm already in the process of getting a replacement Samsung SXGA.... Thanks for you opinions and help!

I'm telling you people if you are requesting a whole nother computer they are going to build it exactly to spec as the one they had just sent you. Which means you are going to get another Hitachi.
You guys need to be asking the tech to send you a Samsung WSXGA+ Replacement Monitor Kit.

Can anybody post some reviews on the LCD Toshiba screens that come out on Inspiron 8600? I would really apprecciate that.

They only ship in the WUXGA flavour, not WXGA or WSXGA. They have the same specs as all the other ultrasharp screens (35ms response, 300:1 contrast, viewing U50/D50/L65/R65).

I have heard only praise for them thus far.

It was kinda of weird to see in my Inspiron 8600 WUXGA that they put in a Toshiba LCD. Do you know if they're the same quality as the Samsung or should I expect less from it?

a little more vivid in colrs but weaker brightness and such

But generally the same as the Samsung and Sharp as far as the important specs in viewing angles, response time and contrast ratio are concerned.

so do u think it's worth sending it back and get a samsung? or am I pushing it?)
You're pushing it..... I mean, they are extremely similar with slight differences, if the Toshiba you've got is good, with no problems, don't risk exchange for a bad screen... the Samsung will be the same.

finally got my Insp 8600 today with a Toshiba screen. The first impression was good, but.... on the bottom I saw the light leaking and I ran a test with caliber and I found 2-3 dead pixels. Called Tech line, and I was told that I would be shipped out another unit. He gave me this option or the option to send it for repair. Anybody with a Toshiba screen? Post any comments that you might have. Thx

In case some of you have not seen my post on the Hitachi screen issue/fix you may want to read this. It looks like it is fixing it, at least temporary for some.

Hi, I am new and also have this kind of similar problem (Hitachi LCD has a light leakage). Dell Techie promised me they will send me a lcd replacement, even tho I don't know yet what kind of lcd they will send to me.
My question is ... Are you going to replace the monitor by yourself, RoofusX and if so can you tell me how to do it.
Thanks.
is not that hard. and they will send u instructions on how to do this with pictures. if u have the leakage problem click on the link on top of ur post and they have a fix for it there.
you mean link from shepdawg? yeah I tried it already, there was no effect to the monitor. And They sent me another Hitachi ......
Just wonder, Is there anyone in here happy with their WSXGA Hitachi? If yea let me know why.

Well, I was finally able to see what the WSXGA+ Hitachi screen looked like. Based on everything I've read on this, and the official Dell forum, I was expecting it to be really terrible, but to be honest, it wasn't.

I didn't play with the machine using Excel or surf the web that much, but the ghosting was barely noticeable unless I was dragging the scroll bar to read a web page. I don't do that anyway, so it doesn't matter. I did notice that when running a program like AdAware which displays the file name of each individual file as it is scanning, that the names tended to "mesh together". Not really a problem there either.

Loaded up a couple of DVDs and found some action-intensive scenes to see how bad the ghosting would be, but again, things were fine.

The one problem that does exist is the light leakage at the bottom of the LCD. Only noticeable against a black background though and not quite so bad when lowering the screen brightness a bit. I didn't like the brightness all the way maxed in any case. I put on a widescreen DVD, and without mentioning anything to her about the "problem", I asked my girlfriend to watch it. She didn't even seem to notice the leakage and was quite pleased with the performance.

Overall, I am happy to report that I was pretty pleased with the machine. It definitely isn't perfect and the screen does have some issues, but it is more than useable and the problems can be avoided if you change your useage habits a little e.g. scrolling a page at a time instead of dragging the bar. Maybe, I'm not as picky as the rest of you or don't have quite the need everything to be absolutely perfect, but if it were my machine, I could more than live with it...

Thats what my screen did on my 8600, I let Dell try to fix it 3 times, they failed so I sent it back, plain and simple.
