**IMPORTANT**700M - Should have a RECALL...

Well, for those that own a 700M may already know of this problem -> www.recall700m.com

But for those that do not or is thinking of buying a used 700m, read the articles and links before buying.

If DELL reads this, you really owe it to your customers to admit that it exist.

*NOTE* I have confirmed with one of their techs that an article for THEIR troubleshooting exists for this problem but they are instructed to AVOID it as much as possible because the real fix for it is to REPLACE the motherboard.

In other words, DELL does NOT want to admit the problem because it would mean a LOT of motherboard replacements for the 700M owners out there...tsk tsk

****BTW, if you do own a 700M and have this problem, the "updated" mobo that will fix this problem is part # RG076...

This is already old news. I have even heard that replacing the motherboard does not eliminate the problem for some of them...

Old News - Yes, but a lot people still think that a motherboard does not fix this issue...HOWEVER the motherboard with the right part# DOES FIX IT.

The reason most people believe that a mobo fix does not fix the issue is because when you call in about and convince a DELL rep to send you a replacement motherboard, they always send the OLDER revision of the board. The Part number I gave is the REVISED board that very little people know about (ven some reps) the rep would actually have to research their database to find this actual part.

So, Yes the motherboard fix does not work when you get the OLDER revision (which is always sent when people do not reuqest the SPECIFIC part number). If you read the posts you will notice a pattern that the motherbaord replacements have always been the older revision boards so of course the problem would not be resolved because all they are doing is replacing a defective motherboard with another one...

To properly diagnose the problem, you should state the "whooping" noise with the recorded sound file...

I visited your that site and that made me reconsider my plan of buying a 710M. Anyone knows if that sissue also plagues the 710M?

You do realize that doesn't negate having a recall. Recalls are done when there are serious safety issues like the battery recall that could actually hurt people. Having bad audio on your system isn't going to cause someone to seriously injury themself or cause death. Therefore I wouldn't be suprised if Dell does nothing about it.

Well, I wouldn't cancel that order on 710M. If you read the links the problem ONLY FOLLOWS the 700M NOT the 710M. I own the 700M (had the problem and got it fixed) and really LOVE it....The 700M is fantastic for a portable system. Just the flaw on the 700M....

**REMINDER** this flaw is for the 700M ONLY. The 710M is NOT effected

Sounds the same as the "hiss" problem on some Clevo remakes.
