MCE Backup CD Installation - Bloatware?

Thread Starter
What is the consensus on the MCE Backup CDs? A couple people have said that they exited the program early because they thought it was going to install bloatware. What is the consensus?

Has anyone let the disk run it's full course? Did it install bloatware?

There's maybe 4 or 5 additional programs that are installed, but it's not really bloat. A couple of MCE games, some burning plugin for MCE, and something else. It doesn't install near the amount of garbage that this notebook came with from Dell originally. There's a warningscreen after the normal XP installation but before you get to the desktop that says it's installing applications and that lasts for 10-15 minutes. As far as I can tell, it must be doing the MCE setup/changes during that time. There's no way the additional programs actually take that long to install. It doesn't even install the drivers when using the MCE DVD from Dell.

Is the Cyberlink PowerDVD software on it? Which disk had this?

I just used my disk to repair my system, and it fixed a bad CPU utilization problem. My system was running 30% or more at idle!

You have you request the Cyberlink PowerDVD installation from Dell, as well as Sonic burning software.

I noticed that the MCE reinstallation also installs yahoo toolbar for IE. Hate that damn toolbar.

Are you sure about that? I've reinstalled MCE using the DVD twice, and haven't had the Yahoo toolbar either time. Might want to check stuff you're installing manually. Alot of stuff has started bunding crap like that, and the Google Desktop, etc.

Check these 2 threads on my problem and how I somewhat fixed it. I still have a CPU throttling problem though, but my CPU utilization is good now.
