dell doesnt need to be bought.

Doesnt make sense for them to buy them. Dell has enough resources to mimic and stomp AW into the ground if they wanted. AW doesnt threaten them at all.

dells market i think is diff than alienwares.

if dell built GAMER laptops ( more than just 1 model) alienware would be no more.

alienware laptops (especially laptops are hidious)

it wouldn't shock me if they did. if memory serves me right alienware uses amd chips. this would work out great for Dell. as it gives the company a chance to compete against the other 2 major players that uses both intel and amd chips.

this would be a good thing. imagine buying a xps with an amd chip 8+++ gtx 4 year warranty for 750 dollars off and 30% epp !!!! thats just outstanding

Agreed!

Depending on the price, it would be smart for Dell to buy them, since they want to move more into the "high end" line of laptops, e.g. XPS line. The high end laptops often have higher profit margin than other laptop lines; note how expensive AW stuff is.

Dell to Buy Out Alienware, You got it backwards

But on that note, it would be a smart move if they want to dominate the game market, cheaper to buy a whole department geared toward gaming rather than starting up one which they kinda are doing with the XPS line.

It would be interesting...but as someone already said, if Dell felt it was lucrative to dive into the PC gaming market anymore than it already is....it would just do it. The XPS line offers insane performance, especially the M170 laptop which gets recognized everywhere for its performance. The XPS 600 loaded up is also a rocking system.

The only thing AW does better than Dell is market the product. AW systems look awesome, and they offer some different hardware, like BFG graphics cards and other brand name stuff.

I think this is just a rumor..unless the price was right to buy them.

However...I agree with the other post, if Dell decided to get serious and open a full out gaming division, offering case options, water cooling and brand name parts, it would be the end for most little companies. But I dont think Dell cares enough to bother with the small market of people willing to spend 7500 bucks on a computer.

If Dell buys Alienware, they will keep it at that way like the merge between HP & Compaq...

I would just like to say...it's "BUY" not "BYE".

Move on, nothing to see here anymore.

It's all just about the name. It's like an owning an exotic car. I learned a long time ago that any product with a "cool" sounding name is a total rip off.

AW is fine. Cool gaming company, definetly awesome cases, would love to have one someday if the XPS line gets shut down. The NUMBER ONE, undisputable arguement agaisnt paying TOP dollar for maxed out boutique computers is the fact that they are OUTDATED in 2 months time, MAX. I've said this once and I'll say it again, if video cards and processors came out every year or year and a half, spending $6000 on a FAST system might be justified. But I've seen people blow 8 GRAND on watercooled systems from any of the small gaming companies, and a year later they are selling the parts.

THIS is where Dell wins. They built the XPS line, with all their money and power, put every option they want in it, and sell it at 25-40% off retail and ship it free. The attraction isnt the gray case, the "dell" brand video card (if they even still do that), or anything else that gets made fun of.

The fact is its CHEAP, and they give you a crazy warranty with overnight service for like $10 dollars. AND HERES the kicker...the BIG KICKER..when I ran 3DMARK05 on my XPS gen 3 when I first got it almost 2 years ago..it ROCKED MANY of these 6000 dollar systems. I even got yelled at, and got negative rep because I POSTED MY SCORE and people got upset?

I never had anything against any small company. as a matter of fact, I LOVE those AW cases, and Voodoo watercooled monsters...I configure them all the time on their sites. But when it comes to cash, Dell delivers, and thats my point, and always will be. Nothing personal.

One day I'm gonna splurge and go for the AW case in yellow with blue alien ice...but not until I see a coupon code! call me cheap...cause I am, LOL

Why would Dell buy AW when AW doesn't make its own laptops? AW for the most part uses Clevo laptops in a modified case.

For desktops, Dell could easily make a monster rig for games if they wanted.
