Maybe because every time you come into the AW section, you're telling us all how we want a Dell...? Do I really need to explain to you why this is an issue in a string about Dell supposedly buying out Alienware? Sure, Dell could build systems like Alienware, so why don't they? You can bet companies like Alienware were worried when Dell first announced the XPS line, but for some reason most people don't see the XPS as an equal to machines from smaller companies like Alienware and boutique system builders. For some reason...

REALITY my friend. Dell can do WHATEVER IT WANTS. ITS GOT BILLIONS of PUBLICLY REPORTED DOLLARS. |
Then why don't they put Alienware out of business?

| The ONLY, only, only only, reason Dell hasn't decided to open a factory and hire a specific team of 100 computer techs to create the most insane gaming line ever is because they CANT JUSTIFY IT to the SHAREHOLDERS. The PERCENTAGE of money that comes from $5000 dollar GAMING computers is SO minimal than what comes from selling 2 million Dell 4600's at 1000 a pop, or supplying GE capital with servers for international offices. Why do we have a very good performing, yet not as flashy as it could be XPS line, CAUSE THE PEOPLE DECIDING THESE THINGS ARE GETTING PAID $1-2 MILLION A YEAR and know better. THEREFORE we get a GREAT gaming system at a GREAT PRICE that keeps customers floating around Dell. If you buy an XPS once, you're likely to GO BACK TO DELL For monitors, laptop for work..etc..its just another hook. |
So now it's the shareholders that are stopping Dell from building quality high performance rigs? LOL! You're one of the only die hard Dell fans Commish. Most people buy them due to pricing. You get quite a bit for the price from Dell, but a lot of power users aren't only interested in the bottom line. Seems Alienware is making pretty good money in the gaming sector...

| I'm so tired of this argument. Its ABOUT MONEY. GOD FORBID someone who plays Battlefield 2 gets high enough in the Dell company for his own good and releases some insane gaming line at 40% off with water cooling that ships in 3 days and has a 4 year OVERNIGHT service WARRANTY for $177 bucks. |
Again, since you apparently know Michael Dell and what motivates him, why do you think they're not doing that now? You think the shareholders won't let him? With Michael Dell's wealth, he could start a new company under a separate name and hold it privately and build rigs like Alienware. No shareholders to "hold him back"... So why doesn't he?

| And one OTHER point...what is this talk about crap hardware? I have an ATI X800 XT, a real intel P4 EE, and WD raptors...The XPS 600 has an Nvidia Nforce SLI mobo with unlocked BIOS. AND im NOT even saying AW doesnt offer GREAT hardware, because they sure do, including awesome BFG overclock video cards, but PLEASE...stop making this 4 year old claim everytime we wanna put Dell down. It's such a joke. |
Why do you care so much? If you're happy with your Dell, what's the problem? Is your 'memory' bad? What kind of motherboard do you have in your system? What kind of memory? Will Dell tell you who makes their hardware? Do you have to use Dell only drivers for any of your hardware?

| I'll say I think AW systems are great, always have, always wanted to have one. I may even go that route for my next one to finally have those glowing eyes. But please...cut the nonsense. |
You've been saying this as long as you've been posting in the AW section, but you still don't own an Alienware. Why is that? I even remember a time where you told us all you'd ordered one. You told everyone in the AW section that we'd all want an XPS too if it were water cooled and offered SLI, but I don't see many people moving to Dell after they've owned an Alienware. Does Dell offer SLI yet?

AND THAT my friends, is the reality. |
It's your reality Commish, too bad most everyone else sees these things differently. Dell does what Dell does. They're successful at it. They've tried to jump into the gaming sector and it hasn't worked out like they'd hoped. Just accept you get a functional computer at Dell for a low price, but if you want the kind of hardware Alienware and other manufacturers use, the care and attention to build details and great support, you have to pay for it.
Why is it you guys think Dell would sell the same quality systems that Alienware does for 50% off? The way Dell makes it's money is to design systems to a price point. You can't do that and succeed with the kind of hardware gaming system manufacturers use, even if you're Dell. If they could do that, why haven't they yet?
