This is a pretty sane thread if you ask me, ive seen some bad ones, but even hammer is somewhat respectful in this one.

LMAO, just a couple of weeks ago I posted in the Alienware forum about what if the Alienware laptops was nothing but a prepackaged Gateway. I was just joking ,obviously, but someone gave me negative rep points on my comment. If this does happen I'm so on this guy/girl butt for an apologize.

It's also a sexy case (for the AW).

If the rumor turned out to be true (I doubt) Dell would likely only buy the name and look of the machines. Dell by far makes the best use of economy of scale, and 'just in time' production. It's kinda their thing, and I don't see that changing into a boutique op.

True. I wouldn't mind seeing AW get bought out. I truly believe they are overcharging each of their customers. All they have going for them is their cases and name recognition from PC n00bs.

If Dell bought AW more people would flock to their XPS series. Guaranteed.

Actually, I think their (AW) pricing is pretty fair for what their resources are, and what they offer.

Dell can afford to lose money on certain lines (Inspiron) as long as their core business (Gov't and business) is solid. It's worth it for Dell to lose money on Inspiron in exchange for a dominant market share. AW doesn't have that luxury.

AW really does put out a nice machine. Sexy too. But... they simply don't have the market share to make use of economies of scale. This alone would likely drop the price of an AW if it were bought by Dell.

Wow... never seen anyone say that I hope that was sarcasm.

Well... the company isn't exactly rolling in dough. Dell skews the perception of the market in a similar way as Walmart does.

If I were to build, assemble and distribute laptop PC's from my garage, I'd probably have to charge tens of thousands each, just to break even. The moral is, the more you make, the cheaper you can make them.

I'm talking desktops but OK.

AW could be cheaper, but they are too small to do so. I support their business, its a cool business to be in, but they have to rely on the big spenders to support them, and there are muchhhhh fewer big spenders than people looking for a deal (the people with the MOST money often are the CHEAPEST). How many college people are buying boutique systems? We see it all the time..."I'm using my (Name Brand gaming notebook) ($4000 bucks) for taking notes in class. Where exactly do college students get 4 GRAND for a laptop??

I dont like the new AW website set up. They should go back to what it was a couple years ago. and commish... in most cases, your only talking a difference of a couple hundered bucks for a system from a business that is dedicated to high performance machines. and sometimes they can be cheaper.

Aurora...I agree with so much of your very fair comments...but a couple hundred bucks??

Sept 04...I decided I wanted a

P4 EE
X800 XT
dual raptors
XP pro
Norton 2004
20 inch LCD
at least 3 year warranty

AW was $4600 w/ monitor
Dell was $2700 with 20 inch ultrasharp/ free 2 day shipping (40%) off

any other debate would work but price...not quite, LOL

This is insane. The AW thread on this is nothing but one great big Dell bash. One of "our" users went over and asked an honest question and they practically threw him off the board for a "personal attack".

Man, those AW guys sure hate us for paying less for a computer that performs the same/better than their priced-to-hell beasts, don't they?

He's right, this is a mature conversation/debate. I think we've seen a "troll" and I dont think there have been many comments that are actually TROLL like...just strong opinions on a very hot rumor. Good job moderators on AW and dell forums. I like to see some discretion in booting people and closing threads.
