Lets say i get a 1 year warrenty to start with, if its about to run out can i renew it or extend it later?
they may or may not offer it later. Get the 3 year now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust us on this one. If i didnt have my 3 year warranty i would have been out 1000 bucks right now.

id say 2 or 3 years depending on how many PC's you go through and how often you upgrade.. just think about those 2 not extending... 1- extending generally costs alot more then rather than now 2- not sure if alienware has extension options

AW has offered extensions to people, but I would not count on it in the future. Also, I don't think anyone has been offered an extension that goes beyond 3 years from purchase i.e. buy 2 now only get 1 offered. Again I'm not sure you can count on this practice to continue.

you can always upgrade while you are in your warranty period, i just did mine and got 10 % off.

I assume he's talking about the upgrade plan AW has always offered.

If you're under warranty, they pay shipping one way, give you "vendor cost" on parts (I assume that's what the 10% off is), and they do the labor for free. When your warranty expires, they'll still do your upgrades, but you pay shipping and labor, in addition to "vendor cost" on parts.

You can also order upgrade parts for life from AW for the same "vendor costs".

I remember a while back in the AW forums that people were complaining about AW's "vendor cost" being higher in some cases than you could buy new parts from sites like Pricewatch, so they knocked an additional amount off the cost of the parts. Maybe that's the 10% fizzle is talkin bout...

Interesting Hammer. I've gotten a couple emails for my latest desktop offering to extend the actual computer warranty over the 1 year I have now. It was roughly $300 or so to extend it out to 4 years total (3 additional years). At least that is the way I read the email. If it was just for the upgrade plan I think its a little spendy, but that is me. I'd prefer to purchase the parts from AW and install myself since we can get parts at AW cost.

no no no hammer. i meant they gave me 10% off the price of the extended warranty. plus i got an extra 9 cell battery for like $40. im not saying that they will do it for you, just saying thats the deal i got....and also i think cancerkiller was saying that he did not know that they offered extended warranties whilst still in your currenty warranty period.

Yes. And the email I recieved read like a limited time offer so I'm not sure they will continue the practice or not. It is not an option advertised by AW.
