Question about the 5500...

I hear people talk about being able to "switch" video cards...what exactly are they talking about? Is there an actual switch you can use to turn the video card on/off? I went to configure a 5500 today, and didnt see anything on there about it. Just confused a little. Thanks for the help though.

As long as you order the go6600 video card (128MB or 256MB) you have the option to switch from the integrated graphics to the go6600. When the computer is turned off, you can flick the switch (located on right side of bottom front of the computer) to "ext VGA" which is the go6600.

(Typing this on my new m5500 - been playing with it for a couple of hours, and so far so good - more comments to come tomorrow).

quite frankly that is one of the nicest features on my m5500. i luv it, if u get this laptop u will not be dissapointed. A great investment

And look under "Graphics and Video". See it has a video card and integrated graphics? It acutally lets the user physicall switch the graphics between dedicated and integrated. So yes, its a switch or key combination... an owner could clarify this.

This link shows port diagrams. Note the "Graphics Control Technology" switch on the front, near the Media Card Reader. It is a physical switch to toggle the two.

That is really cool...just curious though. About how long does a batter charge last for just simple note taking, both with the Integrated and Dedicated video cards on? Sorry, may just be lazy, but i did a few searches earlier and didnt find anything. But what is the batter life like? I am going to college, and will need it for note taking as well. I have an Asus Z71V right now, but my bro is getting it, and im either getting a Z70V or the 5500...cant decide right now. The Asus has AMAZING battery life though. But thanks again for all the help.
