Asus M6800n *56k warning* - Page 9

I wasn't having any problems either ( that I thought they would fix), but installed them anyways.
The biggest difference I saw was in a few of the option for the 9600 drivers - other than that everything is still working.

Tomorrow I will give you the exact weights couse mine arrived yesterday!
(Have to buy new batteries for my kitchen scale )

The weight saver module is a piece of plastic that you can put in the place of the cd-rom reader... You take de cd-rom reader, and put that plastic "case" in the hole ... I still prefer the extra weight and have the drive...

While you're plugged into the wall, you only have a choice between those three settings. When you're on bat. all the other's become selectable, and Super performance is not longer available.
To modify one of those selections right click on the Power 4 gear in the icon tray, and unselect - "Auto Performance", you can then change the settings of the default configurations to your liking allthough you cannot add more settings.

One thing that the update drivers/bios fixed was - When coming out of standby, or hibernation I would have graphical corruptions. I don't seem to have that problem anymore. ( allthough I don't know if the bios fixed that, or the new VGA drivers).

Can anyone give any input on what kind of battery run time you're getting? I'm considering the WXGA 15.4" at the moment, but I haven't seen any real solid reports on battery life.
Havent timed it yet, but I am seeing 4+ hours battery life, approx.

There is a util in the bios to calibrate the battery. No idea what it does, havent looked into it yet. When I get to that, I will run a full charge and time a battery drain under some regular usage (office apps, adobe apps, etc.)

I get 3.5 to 4 hrs. off battery using the highest preconfigured power gear setting.

I think this might be legacy bios utility for NiCad batteries. Not sure if it's applicable to litium ion. Anybody??

I think Lithium batteries at some point also suffers for the memory issues that Ni-MH batteries does, but not even near in the same extenct. Not sure on this though.
As a rule of thumb it is a good idea to drain a lithium battery every 1 or 2 month with daily use. Maybe it´s here that the battery calibration comes in handy........?

I can get over 4 hours with the screen brightness set to low and just watching videos.

Good notebook, but the next one W1(?) is very very very nice....

Thanx Aliensub for the review. I didn't realize i had to do without the 2 speakers in the screen until i saw your pics here. Sound quality on my 15.1'' is no too good, but then i didn't get it for the sound. The 2 speakers i have are situated UNDER (?) the laptop-frontside. So quality is best when placed on a hard surface, like a table. But most of the time i use it on my lap (which is sometimes a bit warm, when i'm video-editing and tha cpu and hd reach 60 degr. celcius). I think the 15.4'' looks better because it doesn't have the strange metal strip around the screen. But i still like it very much!!

Hello... When I got the notebook it was with 0 dead pixels, now it has two.
What did you do?

Try to scratch them away
When it has 0 dead pixels and they arrive later, it must be considered as a defect. Try to talk with your provider and see if they wille exchange it.

Sorry to hear about. I would die if mine had dead pixels

I'm still awaiting for my reseller to swap my laptop (http://www.de-laptopper.nl/). Due to delivery problems with M6000's here in the Holland. Very strange yours got more defect pixels.....

I believe the only way you can change the volume is by hitting Fn + F11/F12. There is no volume button on the computer other than that ... but I could be wrong.

I have a few questions of my own for all the Asus M6N owners out there as well ...

1. I seem to be having a problem with the battery. The power icon always says 98% charging ... it will never go back to 100% it just gets stuck there ... however the light indicator on the laptop doesn't indicate that it's still charging. I tried to discharge the battery and recharge it up to 100% ... but it always stops at 98% ... I tried the battery callibration in the BIOS ... any other suggestions?

2. I only got slightly over 3 hours of battery life when I first got the laptop and was performing routine callibrations ... but that was with running DVDs to drain the battery down. Should I expect much more battery life if I'm not watching a DVD?

3. I know I only got my laptop a little over a month ago ... but I'm already thinking of ways to eventually upgrade this baby. Is it possible to upgrade from the Intel 2100 Pro wireless to the Intel 2200 which supports b/g? This laptop is supposed to be Dothan ready ... so when the 2.0G Dothan eventually comes out in about a year, will I be able to just swap processors?
How difficult is it to get an additional drive or battery for the swapable bay?

Oh ... here's my specs ... I'm in Taiwan right now ... so it's pretty easy to get laptops here:

Asus M6000N
15.4" WXGA, 1.5G PM (Centrino), Hitachi 60GB 7200RPM HD, 1.0G RAM, DVD/CD-RW.

Hi TyeKidd,

1 - I would have tried the calibration too. Besides that I'm not sure what else you can do. However, if the charging light turns off, then the battery is probably fine

2- Running DVD, that seems about right. I can get ~4.5, but that's if I turn down the screen brightness, and am doing trivial task, light browsing, or writing code.

3- You can upgrade to both the intel 2200, and the Dothan ( actually, I''ve already ordered my 2200 pro to install, but havenot yet received it). Someone posted a manual that shows exactly how to upgrade the components - you should be able to fnd a link to it earlier in this thread.
*Edit* - received the 2200BG today, and its working flawlessly.
