Anybody else with me ??

Ok first of all I think this forums is going out of control Which is a good thing...but how about bringing back some control...

First on my list is the Alienware section. This is another "High-Traffic" section and probably has more traffic than even the Sager section of the forums. I am interested in looking at the alienware section but i would like to be able to choose when I want to see it.The way things are now, I end up stumbling onto posts in that section regardless of whether i want to or not.

My suggestion is that the Alienware section be isolated from the Sager section without crosstalk unless a user specifies that he wants to receive threads and posts from both section. When I click "new posts" i want to see all threads and posts from my specified sections alone...

Second on my list is the discussions on the "other" notebooks. Great and I love the discussions that go on there - but I dont want to see them unless i am really interested in doing so.

Basically - is there any way I can customize my account to make this possible?

Third on my list is the introduction of a new rule targeted at the mods. Yes, the mods are doing a wonderful job and everything is open and transparent. however of late I have seen situations where mods have abused their powers and modified threads and posts without the consent of the poster. I dont think this equates to openness. I may say something abrasive...yes I have been a little ballsy and out of line...but its all in the open with no hidden agendas. I suggest the mods also excercise the same degree of "openness" with their activities. Luckily, this forums has so far been relatively free from mod intervention - just want to stop the isolated incidents before it gets out of hand later.

Another thing is "Multiple Threads on the same topic" which I find becoming more and more common these days. users should be encouraged to post only once and refrain from creating new threads without control. I have 3000 something posts to my credits and "only" 3 pages of threads that I have started. There are members with a few hundred posts and pages and pages and more pages of threads that they have started. I am sure NO ONE is that full of "neue information" and I recommend they take this seriously.

The last thing on my list is having fun. This is something which is becoming a rarity - have fun people!! Post jokes and make merry!!!
Too much seriousness about these little "hardware" nonsensities are totally unnecessary and bad for the heart

Another totally pointless thread to add to my list of "started threads"

Ya, fun is good. Im not sure exactly what you are talking about incedents but i do recall some post against sager that seemed to disapeer. The alienware situation is all together different. Have you noticed how every other person says they put their internal wireless together wrong? But i can't stand AW so i avoid that area for now. Sounds like a good sugestion.

I dont use the "find new posts" but if i did I would not like to filter out posts that I didnt even care for (kinda like spam) so good call gsferrari on that one, I havent seen the mods use there power just cuz they can, but then again im not that involved with the forum as you so...

o yea and we need a moderator for the Audio/Visual forum!!

As a mod I would like to say if anyone ever has an issue with something I or another mod has done please pm me. Maybe I could explain why we did whatever we did.

I agree a bit of control on the "new posts" would be a nice addition. Frankly, I don't much care about Dell, Toshiba, IBM, etc, et al, ad nauseum. The AW, VooDoo and so on, high priced spreads are ok, but I share the Spexor of AngryModder point of view. I am mostly interested in SAGERs, the rest is mostly piffle, though I do participate sometimes, generally to have as much fun as the law allows.

The forums are growing up. We typically have 7-10 pages of posts each day. It may soon be time to do some spring cleaning and start cleaning up forums I.E. consolidating posts and removing old non-relevent posts.
On that note
if I see one more new post
about someone asking what they should use to clean their screen
(there are currently 15 seperate posts on this topic!!!!)
or
why the remote doesn't work without the quicktv program running
or
how can I switch the xx keys on my keyboard around.
I'm going.....

I agree beakmyn. We should compile a massive "readme / faq " page and load it onto people who haven't cookied the site or something...I'll let someone else figure out how to make that work. That way first timers could get the hint that we like people to search and find the great information already here.

Wisefish, might I suggest you changing your title from member to moderator or something thereabouts? I had no clue you were a mod until you mentioned it in this thread.

Well... As far as multiple posts on the same problem, sometimes thats because people dont put a very descriptive subject for the start of the thread... "Has this ever happend to anyone?" or "Help!" etc... It is very important that when you post a question you set it up as if it were a helpdesk ticket so to speak.

I know for the most part, people follow this rule. But cant moderators modify the posts to give them a more descriptive title?

I think multiple threads on 1 topic is just a little thing people should get over

If it bugs you dont read it

Oh sure...and the dude who made the post is like "hmph...no support here...Sager sucks...everyone sucks"

We cannot ignore - you have to do a search before you post...at least - that is the suggested course of action.

well ok i guess you guys should wipe out all the negative useless posts but the poor old woman that doesnt know how to search posting the 100th "how do i turn on my laptop" post . . how about her ?

(we dont seem to have a crying smile and i didnt want to use the frown so the uh'oh will have to do)

I have no problem with doing that but, then people may start complaining about what they see as needless mod intervention.
I can see how that would happen - but it obviouslly wouldnt be needless, and if it betters the functionality of the site, whos to complain?

You'd think it would be possible to program a NEW POST by FORUM option, or perhaps even better, just have a SORT BY FORUM link at the top of that column, kind of like the "sort by price" or "sort by rating" links on the pricegrabber\\pricewatch types of web sites.

The multiple threads per topic problem is probably harder to deal with. I hate seeing them, either just lazy folks or n00bs that haven't searched. On the other hand, I've found it can be VERY tedious to search, even when I and my hundreds of posts know I've seen it somewhere before. Good luck on that one.

And speaking of those Alienware forums, whyizzit when I'm in my nice Blue Format Option notebookforums and click on a thread in Alienware, that I'm suddenly switched to ugly dark gray formatting? It's bad enough that I landed in AW in the first place!

The "SEARCH" function could definitely use some improvement. That 3 letter word limitation is a pain, especially since so many items in Cyberland are three letter acronyms, ROM, RAM, PCI, CPU, GPU, VPU, HDD, FDD, SSD, FBI, NIC, FSB, AMD, USB, ETC.

I like the idea of filtering by forum for the new posts or having a new posts for each forum.

Of course, all this is only a result of the tremendous success of these forum, just last October, Gr8 and I discussed the possibilities of hitting 10,000 members in a year, we passed the 5000 mark a couple of weeks ago. (what's he doing in Narnia and where is that anyway?)

As with anything, change is life, life is change. There is no such thing as set and forget except perhaps your tombstone.
