Well, the screws fit in the holes. The long ones is outside, and the short ones is inside. Easy as Dell.

Like I said, it is a new lappy and I just added my 6800 Ultra...
I can never ever take apart a $1800+ lappie like that. I'm not sure..maybe because I didn't pay for it? I'll feel more guilty if I break something.

As long as you prepare your workspace, keep everything organised, read the manual on how to take it apart and don't force anything you should be fine.

Things don't break by taking them apart, things break by being careless.
Know what you are doing and be carefull, there is nothing about the lappy you will not be able to put back together again.

$1,800? For a Dell?

I was kinda worried taking it apart but I wanted a better video card and it was only a $30 upgrade for me.

Back OT: With the new drivers my system doesn't seem to come back from standby. this may not be a driver issue since it happened to me before. I'll have to put my empty ghost back and see what happens then.

Great Drivers! Got a boost also in 3DMarks 05. 7800go OC 300/800. Didnt install the extra tools because I only have Net Framework 1.0 and don't want to bother instaling the 2.0 so :P.

83.90 - 4,768
84.23 - 4,816

In games still the same performance as the 83.90 though, which is great of course ^O^.

? WTF 84.23 already??

Opened mine up today to apply some Arctic Silver, she's a bit tricky to get apart at first but then it's easy as pie. As long as you're careful it's fine. The screen is the most difficult bit cos you gotta disconnect the wireless LAN cable. You wouldn't believe how much dust there was in there, I found two dust spiders too.

just make sure you use screwdrivers that fit the screws perfectly.. i stripped out like 3-4 of mine over the course of opening it up 12 times.. managed to get them out, but they need replacing.. the first time, what i did to keep track of the screws, was I labeled several plastic bags with different locations on the computer and put all of the screws in a cooresponding bag.. it was kind of a waste of time, but if you're really afraid of mixing them up, it works quite well.

According to this site: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=1092 it should be enabled with this patch. I don't have purevideo yet, so I can't say what kind of difference it makes but it should enable better playback of 1080P content.

It will also work with Nero's new player as well, but it's a 30 day free trial product just like purevideo.

I have found that the 720p apple movie trailers run smoother and with less cpu usage than with older drivers. It never went above 80% for me and had no dropped frames. Now for 1080p...... Before with 1080p it was very jumpy and
not really watchable with the 81 series drivers. I'm using the latest Pure video install as well (AFAIK): 1.02.196. Thanks for the great drivers Tony

2 point jump at 3d mark 05 from Tony's previous drivers.

Never went above 93% for me with the X Men 1080p trailer, playback seemed slightly slower, but still quite watchable (though I could only see a portion of the screen on my WXGA+ screen, when I resized it down it did not mess up with losing colors like it did in the past for me). Therefore for me and my system at least HD playback does seem better with these new drivers.

Temp Difference

I don't know if this is a temp problem, but going from the 81.95 v2.24 to the 84.12 v2.30 the idle temp on my 6800 go went from 46C to 52C (wtf).

Under load for example, with WoW it went from being around 60C to 72C

Could anybody please explain any reason behind this? Used to be able to lounge out on the couch and play with it on my lap but now that shit will burn off my leg hairs.

Is it actually HOTTER to the touch? NVIDIA's drivers are notorious for having odd temp readings that can change fairly significantly from one driver to another.
