Sparkles? First time i hear about those for a Samsung screen, this was a problem with older LG screens (mostly in the 9300), afaik. And could you describe what you mean by the "screen door effect"?
I also have a 9400 with Samsung WUXGA Screen (SEC 5557), and i'm quite happy with it. It's got light leakage at the bottom, but it's only visible on dark screen or when watching DVDs (thats the only thing that sucks a little). On the other hand, after a bit of tweaking in the driver settings, color and overall quality are very good, right now.
It's a bit hard to describe the driver settings i adjusted, since i have the german version of XP and the NVidia drivers, but i'll try anyway:
Go to GeForce Go 7800 Settings. There should be something like "Color" or "Color Correction" in the list of settings (in german, it's "Farbkorrektur").
The topmost of the color settings sliders should be labeled "digital vibration" (in german: Digitale Schwingung). I adjusted that to about 33%, (just before switching from "low" to "medium"). This takes the dullness out of color.
Three sliders down is the "Gamma" slider, i adjusted that one to 0.84. This makes the medium tones a little darker. All the other sliders have their default setting.
These settings work well for me. Your mileage may vary, though...
