Compaq Presario 1200 12XL410 power on problem

I just bought a presario 1200 12xl410 and it works (worked) nicely. Only problem I had with it was the touchpad did not work. I took it off and checked the ribbon cable connecting it to the board, but I think it may have been severed a little close the the connection on the motherboard and my mucking with it might have made it worse. So now my problem is that the laptop won't power on. Is there a connection with this cable and the softpower? I've looked around and replacement touchpads/cables are pretty cheap on ebay.
I've had it for a few days and it booted perfectly and worked with no problems while using a USB mouse without having to use the touchpad.
Thanks for any help,
Chris

Disregard that previous post, I'm a monkey. That cable has nothing to do with soft power, I had a problem with the battery not being pushed all the way in or something.
