World of Warcraft on the 5500 - Page 2

Shadowplay - something is not right. Any luck on 3DMark05 or 06? I can imagine a little stutter at 1600 res - but I wouldn't expect it to be too bad even at that. I can play EQII at those settings with only 1GB of RAM (but it runs much better at a lower res).

Can I download 3DMark? I didn't buy it when I bought the system though I considered it. Is there a shareware or trial version available?

And I think I've found out what the freeze, auto reboot issue was. I deactivated the wireless card and this issue went away. The performance for the games is still very unimpressive. I'm going to find 3DMark and see what happens. For both BF2 and WOW I had to use a really low res setting just to make the games playable. Totally dissapointed at this point.

Ok, I got 3DMark06 and got a score of 207. Is that good, bad??????
That is wierd, considering my m5500 is only 2.0 1gb ram 6600 and it runs way smooth.

207 is not good - you should be getting >1200 or so. Sounds like the go6600 card is not activated (or is bad). I know you've been through some of this before, but here is what I would check:

1. Ext VGA switch on the front is clicked all the way to the right

2. Power Button is green when the computer is running

3. Go to Control Panel>Power Options and select "Always On"

4. Go to Control Panel>System and verify your CPU is showing 2.26GHz

5. If this isn't the case, you may need to make sure "maximum performance" (or something similar - can't remember exactly) is enabled in the bios. Hit F2 when booting to get to the bios settings - should be self explanatory from there.

6. If this still doesn't work - you definitely need to call tech support and work through to see if you have a bad video card (or perhaps loose connection?)

Good luck - let us know what you find.

Ok...one step up and two steps back. The maximum performance setting in BIOS was disabled so I enabled it. THAT worked, WOW ran much smoother for about two seconds before it froze and the system rebooted. I thought this reboot issue was related to the network card but I had it turned off and it still rebooted. I tried running 3DMark with the max performance enabled and the system froze and reset again!!!

So bewildering but thanks for the suggestions Shaz.

Don’t know if it was said, but it’s your video card.

I was a big wow’er, you would need the 7800go gtx to get max performance, even with that, in large cities I drop to 40 FPS at times.

To help you out, lower terrain distance (3 ticks is ally you “need”) and disable “full screen glow effect”
Those are the two most in game graphic intensive settings (aside from AA and AF, obviously)
WoW is NOT a heavy graphic intensive game. What you do need is at least 1gb of Ram.
Wow is not that graphic intesive for normal game play

But it is easy to overload your system with “intense setting available”

Started running WoW on a desktop with an AIT 850pro. That card cannot handle more then 3 ticks on terrain distance or full screen glow effect, drops FPS to 30-40 and unableable 10-12 in large cities, by lowing these settings, I had average of 50-55 FPS, 20-30 in city

I ran WoW on a Dell insp. 9300 with Go 6800 and 1GB memory. It could not handle max 1920x1200 res. With max terrain distance and Full screen glow effect. Also, it never burned more then 700MB of ram

I now have a Go 7800GTX and it can handle it, large cities drop to about 40 FPS, same in MC. Again, never burns more then 700MB memory.

Buy your point is valid, I also ran WoW on a Dell lat. With integrated Intel vid card /64MB, never got more then 20 FPS and had EVERYTHING set to min. So yes, Wow doest have to be graphic intensive.

I assume the OP is trying to run WoW at max settings, and im sorry, that cant be done on a 6600…

Any Idea what kind of 3Dmark score you're getting on your 5500 with the 6600 gfx card?
I can see your problem has been solved...

no one likes a preacher with out a reference lol…

should help, that test is done with a 6800 Ultra and still only got 40FPS at max settings…

1 gig is all you need for wow, or any game. (exceptions of course are poorly coded games liek bf2 and oblivion taht ahve tons of memory leaks lol)
WOW is a ram sucker. you need at least 1gb, 2gb is best. aside from that your system should handle it fine. mine handle's it fine at max settings
