I am tempted to buy an extra battery for my 700m. I wonder why did Dell drop the price...

The battery has been at this price for a couple of weeks. I'm trying to wait until the price drops close to $70. You can get the battery on ebay for around $73, but I just don't trust those ebay vendors when it comes to batteries.

It's fine to get a battery off of ebay if you read all of the details. There are tons of vendors selling generic batteries so you have to be careful. But if you read between the lines, and only get a battery that is brand new and OEM, you will save a bunch of money. Plus it doesn't hurt if the vendor has a good feedback rating either. Now, as far as the price coming down from dell anymore.... I wouldn't count on it. It will probably be 5 years till that happens for your laptop.

The frustrating thing is that on ebay, vendors are claiming that their battery is OEM and new but they also claim that their batteries 71 Whr instad of the 65 Whr that Dell sells. So obviously this isn't the same battery that Dell sells and it makes it harder to trust the vendors.

In some cases, there could be a different model of dell laptop that uses the same form but has different internals but will work in a variety of models. For instance I just ordered a new battery for my 8600, but it can also use the D800 battery. The 8600 is a 72whr and the D800 is 80whr according to dell's site and from the ebay vendor

My 700m was delivered with a 71Whr battery last June. Even though it still says 65 on the web site, they've been delivering 71s for a while.

buy dell coupons on Ebay. Tons of them out there, should cut the cost in half.

Last year I bought 5 700M's for under $700 each using coupons and slickdeals.net for guidance.(Its a cheapskate forum not a store) I sold 4 of them for between 1500-1800 on Ebay unopened. Made my car payments for all of 2005 ( on a new BMW too!)

Deals are there, just have to know where to look

Fatwallet.com also has great info

Oh really? That's really good to hear. I wonder why they didn't update the web site?
