Phone ordering vs Online ordering

I was about to order a laptop for my girlfriend online but then I heard if you order through the phone, the salesperson may add extras into your order, even discounts. You have to hassle them a little though to get those extras. Is this true? I'd prefer to order online so I don't have to speak to some dude in a foreign country.

I had a good experience doing it this way:

Configured online by myself, used best coupons possible. Ordered.

Went to online sales rep and asked what they thought about the system (this is roughly 8 hours after I ordered). They made suggestions, I acted like I was learning something. I told them I was a student (I had ordered through Home/Office). They gave me an additional student discount and gave me a new quote number.

I cancelled my original order, took the quote number to a telephone rep, got a bit more help from her.

I essentially paid 1497 for what you see in my sig (minus the extra gig of ram). Bluetooth, truelife, 1.8ghz, 1gig ram, 7800, 7200 60gig hd.

Did you get the basic warranty, or upgrade? I got what's in my sig for $1422 shipped through EPP online with a coupon.

Just basic 1 year warranty.

I talked to the dell sales rep, probably going to add a year of accidental protection. He said it would be about 100 bucks ($119 I think).
