Hp Nx9420

I bought a HP NX9420 (T2600 2.16 Ghz). I really think it looks much, much better than the Dell e1705/9400 duo. Thin, light and professional.

What do you guys think?

Hi

I paid around $2.5 K. It is a 2.16 core duo, with 17'' 1680x1050, 1GB ram and 80 G hard drive. The graphics board is a X1600.

yeah that extra $1200 makes it a much better machine =) Especially against my $1320 E1705 with the 7800 go......

Well 1.66 versus 2.16 is a small difference. And of course the weight and the quality.

How much a does a Thinkpad t60p cost?

I saw and tried a Dell 6000 and it is not that great. The plastic touch seems like my former acer 8204.

[SARCASM]Of course, the quality.[/SARCASM] What are you talking about? The E1705 is made from a magnesium alloy and has features like Strike Zone and RoadReady for added durability. IMHO, the E1705 has way better style, too, as the NX9420 looks like a 90s Thinkpad.

I do like the 10-key on the side, though, but I don't miss not having one. I would miss my 7800go, though (and my $1000). I like having MCE, too. It's fun on the road and easy to use at home to show pictures and play music. I was thinking about getting a BT remote.

@ 2.5K you overpaid by a lot. Some people were pricing the 1.86 9400's at $1300 around presidents day, almost two machines of near the same quality.

I take my E1705 to classes and such everyday, I am quite happy in all aspects.

The HP is a nice machine. I do like the looks of it but I don't know if it has the durability and construction quality of the Dell, I wish I could compare them side by side. As for the price, yes you probably paid a little on the high side but this system looks like its aimed at the Latitude customer not the Inspiron customer and I bet the up coming 15" D820 (which BTW looks awesome from what we have seen so far) is going to be priced more inline with this HP. Overall its a nice system and you should enjoy it.

On a side note, what I would love to see is a Dell Precision with a 17" LCD and a 512mb nVIDIA GPU.

At that price you should be comparing ur laptop to a Apple Macbook Pro and the quality since they are about the same price.

A 9400 is roughly 1.5K cheaper. I mean u can get 2 9400 for the price you paid for the HP.

The bulk of the price of the HP comes from T2600 processor. 9400 with a T2600 is also around $2.5K.

not entirely true, a T2600 is only a 600 dollar upgrade, so it can be priced at 1.9K minimum.

As far as I can see on US Dell site, it can be configured even for less with integrated graphics, half gig of RAM, small battery and low res screen. But for the similar configuration the price is well above $2K. But I may be wrong since I live in Switzerland and don't know how to get the best possible price out of US site.

In any case. it seems that these machines are for slightly different target audiences. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, HP has supposedly better battery life and weight, while Dell has slighly better video option and DVI output.

I wonder what's the screen quality and heat/noise on these new HPs...

Edit: typos

Nobody pays list price for Dells in the US. There are always coupons available. For example, tomorrow there's a new $650-off coupon coming out.

Dell doesn't always have the best machine on the market, but they always have the best bang for the buck.

Yes I think the 7800go is better then the one in the HP, I think I'm not sure.

hehe, that's the reason HP has a better battery life. Unless people are buying the one with the x1400..... I wonder what's the battery life with that video card?

edit - HP is 7.4 lbs while the Dell is 7.61 lbs.

The NX comes with the X1600 not X1400. The former is almost as fast as the 7800.

Cancelled the order. In HP website it says 2.16 T2500 which is impossible.
Called them and they reassured me that it is a 2.16. After the fourth call, they admited it was a mistake (typo) in their website and in fact it was only the 2.0 . I said that is inadmissible and
cancelled. Do not trust HP any more. This was it.

that sucks. I wasnt sure if you had recieved it yet or not.

I am diggin the 9400, but its a bummer that the 7800 is in short to no supply. I honestly would'nt settle with the x1400. Im sure the XPS or at least a dual core with something better than the plain 7800 is coming soon.
