Yep, as mentioned here, definitely do a clean reinstall and ghost to an external drive if you've got one.

Lithium/Lithium-Polymer batteries don't handle deep discharging and recharging. Very bad, just make sure to fully charge it (might even want to charge it a few hours beyond when it says it's fully charged) and fire it up!

You should occasionally try to let it run down a little (but not all the way) to recalibrate the voltage meter (no not a memory effect) But in general deep discharging on Lithium ions is very detrimental to them..

Also read my post here about protecting your M170 lid. --That's if you don't want a ton of scratches on it..

Well I splurged and got those shields, Whatever the hell that is. $29 not a Big deal.
The personalization shield is OK. But it looks ugly IMO. I prefer the brushed gunmetal finish of the M170. If you find you don't like the way the shields look and don't use them, definitely pick up some plexus protectant otherwise you're bound to scratch your lid up pretty quickly.

Yes it snaps on and off. If you put the right image in there you won't have worry about it looking "ghey." Make sure you print it on photo paper on high quality.

1 - reformat
2 - put your windows on a different partition than c:\
3 - make a 5 GB c:\ partition, and use this for your pagefile.
4 - make a limited account, with no passwords for admin or the limited account.
surf the www using the limited account.
5 - look at the tweaks in the dell review forum sticky.
6 - defragment often, use ccleaner often, use firefox and thunderbird, and activate your xp firewall. Update Windows.

Sorry if this seems like a "dumb" question, but how would #4 help? It just seems like kind of a hassle just to surf the 'net.
