URGENT z70va wont boot

It takes about 30 seconds to get to the windows loading screen (during that 30 seconds there is a black screen and the hard drive makes repetitive clicking noise). When the windows loading screen does boot up, its interrupted by a blue screen that says "Process1_initialization_failed" and all the other generic blue screen lingo. I've tried safe mode, but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

Maybe a bad drive also do you have Roxio Go Back installed?

I dont have roxio go back... could it be a problem with RAM?

The repetitive clicking doesn't sound good... That's what my hard drive did when it died... and it cost me $800 to get the data back!!!! more fool me for not backing up.

If you're getting a blue screen of death it doesn't sound good. If you have access to another HD, I'd try swapping them over and seeing if it boots.

Were you carrying the laptop around or did you bang it before it did this. The repetitive clicking sounds like the heads might have gone - physical damage.

it actually sounds like there is a little piece moving around in the right side of my notebook if I move the notebook in a certain way... were is the HD located on the z70va?

turns out there was a loose screw in the HDD compartment. Screwed it back in and everything works fine. weird. still have slower than normal boot times though...

The loose screw may have created some read errors. Run a check disk on the drive and defrag it see if it fixes it...

Smart steps taken when a possible hardware issues arises...

Hello everyone!!! I'm new to this forum and would like to take this chance to thank everyone for their great posts and willingness to help other Asus notebook users. I hope to provided help to others using Asus notebooks and this forum is the perfect place to do such. When a person has a hardware issue the best possible thing they can do period IMHO is download the Ultimate Boot CD and burn it's ISO and use it's utilities. The disk is available here http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and it includes both hard drive and memory testing utilities amongst others. It's a much smarter thing to test the suspect hardware with diagnostic software utilities than to swap out the hardware for other hardware. .. Let it be understood that every time we open a notebook we could possibly damage it and this includes experts that assemble notebooks all day long, we are only human and can slip up. When ever you experience issues like you were having Chado the first thing you should do is check connections/interfaces to devices, screws and make sure you have continuity then second run memtest86 and then a hard drive diagnostic. We should all make special note that people NEED to use lock tight on the screws (stuff suitable for electronics/plastics some locktight meant for metal is corrosive) and use the correct screws. Be very careful people to use the correct screw (thread and screw depth compatibility) for the correct screw hole. I can’t imagine what stripping the screw tap would do ugg!! New chassis? Just my two cents worth...

Justin

PS I would also like to add that PC hardware CAN be partially damaged and work yet still be damaged... just like a beater box car will work but a lot of smoke is pooring out the tail pipe!!!

Who assembled your notebook chado?

Hello chado... I am very curious... who put your notebook together?

I bought it from ISTNC. So I am assuming they did. Kinda strange how they were responsive to my HDD inquiries before I told them there was a loose screw, and then decided to stop emailing me after I told them about the screw. Worried about the implications perhaps, if any?

Was it loose like this?:

I've tested myself, it won't damage the drive when the screw is loose, I think the problem might be the drive wasn't connect properly at the time when you open it, so when you put it back and reseat the drive the problem goes away.

And this is how it looks when the screw is all the way in:

The screw is not long enough to damage the drive in anyway.

Well, the inevitable happened. After three weeks from the first time my HD was acting all messed up, it finally crashed. im getting the 'ticking' noises from my HD and the error message "windows/systems32/hal.dll" is missing blah blah... I've tried everything to repair it.

Anyways, can 1. someone tell me how to remove the HD from a z70va...

Also.. 2. do resellers pay for shipping if there is a parts malfunction? I have it fully warrantied.

Lastly, 3. I need to ship the HD from Canada to the US. Does anyone know if a duty fee will be charged for a case like this?

Thanks

1: Here is the assembly/disassembly guide:

http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/images/N...mbly-Guide.pdf

2: That's up to your reseller

3: on the replacement HD they are going to send you they must type "replacement item" on the custom invoice form, I think they know what to do already.
