Pixel Blind

Ok. I was really intrigued about all the discussion out here comparing wxga, xga, uxga, xbright, etc. So intrigued I went to the local Best Buy after work and spent over an hour comparing the various screens. I don't know if you all have Best Buys near by, but I do and the notebooks there are loaded with all sorts of software that allows critiquing. There is multimedia software, gaming software, and on and on. Anyway I chose 2 different barometers. First was the Dues Ex II game and second was a video clip of Jason vs. Freddie.

Let me tell you this, I set several of these systems up side by side running the same games and movies and to be quite honest I saw absolutely no difference between the uxga and the wxga. The xbright had a slightly cleaner look, but it was so insignificant that honestly if had to spend a great deal more $$ to get one, I personally would not. Obviously if it wasn't much of a monetary upgrade I would say go for it, maybe some day in some future software not written yet these distinctions might prove quite meaningful. Instead of listening to all the reviews of ppl who obviously are going to be a bit prejudice about their own systems, I suggest going to your local computer store and doing your own research.

I'm very sensitive and hope no one flames me over this one. I cry easy.

Don't feel bad, I don't notice a huge difference myself other than the ability to scale my resolution up in games and stuff. The sweet spot for me in games is the 1024 range, so that's the resolution I went with. I will say that the upgrade is usually only around $50 though to the next one up, so that isn't to much if you feel you need it. I guess you have to decide what is best for you. I agree with your comment, the best bet is to go look at the screens yourself if at all possible.

Flame, Flame, Flame

Just had to do that.

But you have done what all potential buyers should do, research!
Nothing, not the most extensive specification, not a thousand reviews can replace your personal impressions of something, especially when you could do the side by side, apples for apples, oranges for oranges, comparisons you did.

There's no substitution for one's personal experience. Afterall, unless you are buying a laptop for everyone else, its you that's going to be using it.
