7900GT/GTX is available! - Page 2

No sorry my friend already laid claims to it plus he is offering very good money for it.

Every person with hands-on experience with the Vista betas detail improvements on stability, security, ease of use, and, especially for me, startup time.

Of course, anyone who can sell their current 7800GTX and only spend $100 for the 7900GTX is getting a good deal.

But remember that Vista is scheduled to be released in 8 months. Not far away at all.

True but i average a new high end card every 6-9 months anyway so im wel on schedule.

That's not his point. His point is why waste that money ever 6-9 months? Why not use the graphic card till it barely plays the newest games, then upgrade? That's what I did with my TNT2. Then I went up to a cheapo GF4MX b/c it was on sale. Then I went to a Radeon 9800. Right now I am using a laptop with a 6600 go, which is a pretty decent card in itself. I usually play games at 800x600 or 1024x768 with low-med settings to get max fps anyways, so I don't really need the latest and greatest.

Once I have the need for a desktop again (a couple of years probably), the most expensive graphic card I will buy is going to be in the $300 range. For me, an extra $200 does not justify a 10% increase in performance.

And thats precisely where you and i defer. I buy them when they come out. Performance is why i love computers. Not just for their utility or convenience. it is why i mod and tweak and build. It is why i spend hundred of dollars on raptors (when i can get more gigs for my mone). Etc Etc. You and i are talking different languages here.

Oh sure i could run my games on my 7800gtx bfg overclocked. Hell i could run them on my 6800 ultras video cards modded to craziness and in sli). But thats not the point.

Well, one of us is in this category!

But both of you missed one of my points. When Vista comes out, anything that's not a DX10 card will run slower than it does now on the same games. Imagine a card that scores 5,000 3DMark 05 now, then 4,400 3DMark 05 in 8 months. Why buy a card that loses comparitive performance in relation to itself, not just in comparison to newer cards that are going to be released in the future.

If I had the money, I would probably do the same thing as you. Unfortunately, I am a poor college student right now, and my mindset is to use things till they are outdated

Once I start making money though... $5000 computer here I come.

Hi Karma. I understand the logic in this but two things kept me from using it. First i received alot of money for my old card where the upgrade didnt affect me much at all. And second. I have allot of computers both for business and personal use and believe me that this card if it turns out that the lack of Directx10 will negatively affect me, that I will find a pc to use it in. Plus bottom line, Upgrading is just so much fun.

Sheeesh dont start that road. My friends come to me for last quarters parts because they know i have them and will upgrade. its goofy. Want to hear really goofy. in less than six months first the asus deluxe comes out and than the premium comes out and of course goofball me buys them both. The only difference between the boards is the chipset fan and the sli being software based for the premium. In fact when i installed them i was able to use the same darn manual. Anyway just making fun of myself. thats all.

Hey, I do the same thing. Gave my Ti4400 to my Dad. You seem to be getting a great deal, too, so why not?

Lol, I think I would probably even go as far as getting a $500 paint job from smooth creations. On every one of the $300 cases I buy (or wish to buy)

The 7900GT would be a good jump from my 6800GS and I probably won't jump on Vista right away unless games take advantage of it right away.

Or I could just save my shinny pennies.

To be honest, I am torn. I might install vista in one of my systems (not my primery gaming rig) and see what happens but i dont know.

Lucky ass, j/k. My order seems to be in limbo at the moment. They billed my card but they are out of stock and it still says processing when I check order status. I can't even cancel and order one somewhere else since they have the hold on it already. It's just not right for them to charge for something they don't have, ranting here. Post some benchmarks, and your computer specs if you get a chance between games.
