How is Dell about getting new batteries at the end of the warranty?

Just as it says.

I'm getting a Dell that's within a month an a half of the end of its 1 year warranty.

Now, in the past, I've called IBM before the year was up to have them replace a worn battery. I had to send the old one in, but that was fine.

How does Dell deal with it? Do they send them out without arguing, or do they want you to send the entire unit in or anything else? Again, sending the old battery in is not a problem if they ask that...

This is the first dell laptop I've owned; I'm hoping my experiences are more IBM-like than old Dell-like (based on my dad's 1100 and the hell we went through with it back in 2003). Hopefully their RMA policy is halfway decent.

they fight to the teeth not to send you one. ask for it now with the complaint that it it only gets 1.5 hours on a full charge whereas before it was getting 4 hours...of course, adjust to your needs and to your system. they'll have you do some stupid things like completely discharge, then recharge fully, etc as troubleshooting, so just do it before you call so you can tell them you already did it.

I wrote them an email about my 1100 battery before the warranty ran out and never received a response.

So much for email support.

As long as you are within warranty you should have no problem. I recently sent my 9300 back due to problem that battery would not fully charge; this was within a month or 2 before warranty expired. They sent me a new battery, still had the problem. Thus I sent the laptop back and they put in a new motherboard. Not a penny out of my pocket and I got a new battery and motherboard. Glad this happened within the 1 year warranty

Better yet, tell them the computer will not power on with the battery. Only AC power.
