Just read a horror story thread about HP. Just curious as to those who are experienced in using multiple companies what you think is the best company in customer service....details such as...

1) Do the techs speak English?
2) Do the techs care about solving your problem?
3) How quickly is your problem resolved?

i vote Lenovo/IBM.

I ordered my keyboard from them without a problem and recieved an email from one of their Tech people. They got my vote.

This is going to be bias. Most of us didn't own the notebooks from all those manufacturers. The Acer is my first laptop (after years of custom desktops). Any time I deal with their support, I get awesome service. But maybe I would've liked Alienware's or Toshiba's CS better. Saying Acer is the "best" for CS is not very accurate.

Just a thought.

hp/compaq. i had some problems and went to their website. i went to the support section, talked with a tech assistant thru IM, and they fixed my problem.

Not Dell. I own a dell and it's been a great notebook so far, but the customer service has to be the worst imaginable. Have called for a few reasons and haven't talked to someone who spoke english yet. Just a FYI

i voted other, but here is my outline of things. all experiences.

DELL:
-------------
used their online chat, the guy on the other end was helpful. My bluetooth keyboard for teh axim died. I spent about 5-10 minutes in the chat, sent the guy links to some pictures of the damage (that i hosted on photoshack), and it went well. 3 days later i was woken up by a doorbell and a DHL truck by my door. The fresh keyboard was in my hands.

Discountlaptops.com
-------------------------------
When i ordered the Z71v for my bro from there, had 2 issues during ordering (both my screwups). They were quick to call me (within hours of my screwup) and the issue was resolved quickly. The people i talked to were very friendly and helpful. Now my bro needs to call in for a new battery (his current one is defunct) and when he does it i guess i'll be able to finalize this rating. but for right now, i'll give them 4.5 stars
rant: ****1/2

ibuypower
----------------
+ no hold time ever
- don't answer emails much
- ground shipping takes forever
+ get the job done
had to ship my system to them 2 times, once for a new lan card, once for a new screeen. both times it was replaced perfectly, but took a while.
rank: ***1/2 (3.5 stars)

HP/Compaq
=-----------------
HELL. I had a homePNA system and i got mine to work fine (between 2 winME pcs) and my friend liked the concept and that it was cheap (only $10 per addapter on geeks.com) he tried it out too. his comps were both XP. He invited me to go help him out, but i was stuck. So i figured i'll call HP/Compaq. 2 hours on hold later and after a royal run-around it gave me nothing. There were a couple of well-meaning people i talked too, but they weren't able to help me. What makes it even worse, is that after i provided a part number, they straight out DENIED they EVER manufactured this product.
rank: *

Uniwill
------------
this is a limited experience so far. but from my email communication with them, for now i'll have to give an inconclusive 4 stars:
rank: ****

My dell rep when i had a problem, i was waiting for scandisk to finish but he said i will call you back in a hour!

HP never answer the phone!!! Rude

i wonder if toshiba has good support, becuase i was really close to getting a toshiba instead of my inspiron!

I have not had better service than Widow PC, no hold time they go above and beyond. And you talk to the same few guys each time. You get what you pay for.

Wow....

...these are pretty varied as far as the "other" posts...but I should have expected that.

My few experiences with Dell's tech upport were excellent.
I'm on my 4th toshiba laptop hand couldn't say anything about customer service becasue I've never had to use it.

Dell's service sucks so much, I can't believe people are voting for them. It is beyond bad, terrible, the customer care, or lack there of, is the reason why I will never buy a computer from them ever again or allow anyone I know to buy a computer from them. Dell makes terrible products, and they have THE WORST customer service.

Dell Sucks!
I simply can't belive that there isn't an option for Lenovo/IBM but there is for Alienware.

My vote goes to IBM, followed by Dell.
I think it'll depend in which country also. Dell UK are terrible, but I believe Dell US are much better. Acer UK supposed to be really bad also, again Acer US good service. Alienware UK bad, Alienware US good.

I feel like resellers have the best support. I've been through it all 3 times with HP tech support and it literally makes me want to hit my head on the wall many times. I just purchased a new laptop through RKcomputers.com and they have been amazing the whole time. I think this company needs to get some credit here on the forums. They've got good products (both ASUS and MSI) and they offer student discounts and cheap warrenties if people are looking for that. Prices are very reasonable.

my vote goes to other: ISTNC. Fantastic is all I can say. From the very beginning when I was umming and aring about getting a laptop the sales rep was amazingly helpful in all ways. Then when it came to ordering my laptop, the fact that I lived in Australia worried them not they simply gave me step by step instructions on what to do. Now here's the really cool part: I was talking to the same rep over IM and asked how my laptop was going and he said that they decided to make a new one because the on they were building had a problem with the mobo and wasn't running at normal capacity. How many companies do that before they ship? test it to see if it's running the best it can. The small problems I've had since were repaired easily over IM by the rep.

Thanks ISTNC, absolutely brilliant

The answers you get are going to depend on experience. I recommend you consider adding a "worst" customer service poll or perhaps a ranking from best to worst.

The poll shows Dell as being the best (I too voted Dell) because more people own them than other brands.

I have two experiences, one good the other BAD.

Dell: Vid card went bad in my i9100. Dell sent me a box and I had DHL pick it up on a Tuesday. It returned 3 days later working perfectly. Worked perfectly till I sold it.

HP: Wife sold her Toshiba and bought an HP, bad idea. The motherboard went bad after one month but it took HP 2 tries and over 4 months to FINALLY fix it. I could go on-and-on as to how poor HP CS is. AVOID HP laptops (not printers) if you wish good CS (IMHO).
