XPS2: Personalization Shield ?

Hey Guys

I was just wondering, I never saw the XPS2: Personalization Shield in real life, but I have seen the pictures in the form. I was just thinking can I buy the XPS2: Personalization Shield and put it on the E1705. I mean they do have the same screen size. I really like the XPS2: Personalization Shield. So if anybody knows for sure that it will fit the E1705, let me know please. If I want to order it, what do I have to tell the Dell Parts Dept and if anybody knows how much it cost, please let me know. Also if anybody knows the SKU number, please let me know.

Can someone please answer my post. I really need to know and be sure before I order the XPS2: Personalization Shield will fit my E1705. Please someone answer my question?

I really doubt it will. Does your E1705 have notches at the top of the screen? These would be for the shield to snap on to.

I think it will fit on perfectly because look at the XPS at Dell's website, its exactly like the 9300 (Interior and Extorier). I would bet my money on it will fit. Look at what dell says:

Accessorize your Inspiron XPS M170

The XPS Gen2 personalization shield allows you to print your own custom insert on 8.5" X 11" photo paper and make a one of a kind statement, or choose from 3 preprinted inserts (included inserts vary and are subject to change without notice).

To check it out, follow these instructions:

1. Go to www.dell.com
2. Click "Home & Home office" link
3. At top of the Dell webpage put you mouse pointer over Notebooks and a menu will drop down...
4. Click "Compare All Notebooks"
5. Click "Choose XPS Series"
6. Click "More Details" under M170, not the M140
7. Click "Customize it"
8. Click "Continue" TWICE
9. Look for "LCD/Color Kits", right underneath that it will say "Nothing selected"
10. Click "Nothing selected"
11. Click "Help me choose"

I just called Dell's Spare Department and the guy told me that it should fit the E1705 with no problems. He compared the screen information with the 9300/or E1705 and they both have the same size. So I guess Communist is right. I mean that what I thought. XPS Gen and the E1705, both have the same screen size. So why wouldn't XPS2: Personalization Shield fit the E1705.

Yes, the screens are the same size, but does the screen have the notches for the shield to snap on to? That was my concern.

I am pretty sure when he was comparing the two models, he would be looking for that notches thing. I did a hardcore search on the fourm and a lot of the guys are saying that it will fit no problem. Plus it only $20 some bucks. I am gona order it and see what happens. If it fints cool, if it doesn't, then I will sell it.

Alright, cool. It's only $20? Damn! Someone on here is asking $40 for one. I've already got one but it's all scratched up. May be time to get a new one! Do you have to order over the phone?

Thx a lot for the pics and the info RR Drew! I will order one soon! Man I can't wait. The only problem is that they don't have any right now. I called dell yesterday.
