If you dont game get a Dell 630m/m140 however, they are replacing this with a dual core 640m soon, may be worth a wait for that.

If you do game, an Asus W3J is in order. Its the most expensive of the lot but has an x1600! Dont bother with toshiba or hpcompaq - both of them are useless!

I just purchased a MSI 1022. It is a 14 inch widescreen, 6200 go GPU, and it is very good quality. I purchased from RKcomputers and highly recommend them. Another company that sells the MSI brand is RJtech but i found their email responses slower and less knowledgable than from RK which is why i went with RK.

get compaq (or hp). maybe a v2000 series. they are very durable not to mention fast (AMD ) and just very good for everyday use.

Check out the screens first. The HPs in my experience do horrible with text. Just a slight verticle angle viewng change makes fonts fade out. Open the start menu on a HP, look at the text on the start menu as you move your head slightly up and down. I'm talking even an inch. Very poor displays in my mind.

I second Burton's recommendation of the MSI MS1022. I got one a month ago and I'm pretty damn satisfied with mine. (I got mine from RJtech) Keyboard's a bit "flexy" but not too bad. magnesium alloy chassis with aluminum panels. I like the durability of the finish too. A month in my laptop bag and no unsightly scratches. Great screen, very wide view angles. Built my own in about 15-20 minutes with the barebones kit.
