Norton 2006

I bought the Norton Internet Security Upgrade and it came with the Norton System works 2006....pretty sweet package if I say so myself. Lotta features, installed easily, and is currently defragging my hard drive. I have to say Norton has seemed to improve this product since the 2004 version I've been using. I'm much more impressed with these two latest programs.

I am curious to find out if the newest Norton is a big resource hog compared to the previous versions. IMO, I wasn't impressed with Norton anti-virus at all. Half of the time, Norton didn't detect any viruses that some of my free anti-virus software caught. Let us know how it works out for ya. Maybe I will give them another shot if they have improved it drastically.

I cant argue with the protection it proveides, but it really is a resource hog. I switched from norton to AVG about a year ago, and i couldn't be happier. Haven't gotten a single virus.

I used to use Norton Internet Security 2004 on my old desktop, worked fine on that machine, but I once tried to put Norton IS 2005 on my I6000, and all it did was slow it down, hog up resources like you wouldn't believe, and to top it off, didn't install properly and didn't function properly! What a piece of crap!

All I'm using now is MS Anti-Spyware, but I wish I could find an anti-virus software and firewall that doesn't hog resources, works good, and is free or cheap. I've searched high and low for the past year and can't find one, how ashame.

I DESPISE NIS. NAV is the best AV software out there, next to Nod32, only because Nod takes up like 0 resources.

I recommend Symantec Norton Corporate Edition. Works great and takes barely any resources.

Sygate firewall and Norton Corp. and Giant Antispyware makes a pretty safe PC. Sygate is also owned by Symantec so the AV and FW don't clash like some others can.

I like the integration the Norton does with its programs. NIS and Norton Works are all in one control panel and seem to work together flawlessly. My system is fast enough to handle it all, and it works like a charm. Very cool set of utilities.

Yep Norton on all of our machines and love it

i have norton systemworks 2006 but went back to version 2004 cuz I have Symantec Norton Corporate Edition antivirus and it takes less resources. Why I went back is 2004 is when I installed 2006 without the antivirus and installed Symantec Norton Corporate Edition it keeps telling me i have no antivirus protection. I just cant figure how to get it to stop giving me that error.

I have used Norton for years. I've always been a big supporter of them. Norton 2004 wasnt all that great IMO. Norton 2005 was pretty decent. I'm using Norton 2006 on one of my PCs and its pretty nice. I really do like it. Seems like each time I try to upgrade one of my PCs via online the entire system just gets really messed up. I have found Its better to buy Norton in a retail store and upgrade it that way rather than online.

The thing is though as far as the Antivirus goes AVG does just as good and its free. As the subscriptions run out on all my PCs I'm switching to AVG for my antivirus protection. Really no need to spend all that money anymore. Lot of really good free programs out there now that'll do just as good as the big brand names for alot less. Just gotta look into them carefully before picking one.

nod32 for a/v. There is nothing better

you should not put all your eggs in one basket (system works)

About the only thing I miss from System Works is the defrag program.

I used to use Norton System Works for quite a long time now I switch to AVG for all my family members' computers. AVG is free.

I used to use norton years ago until 2003 then i stopped as it was slowing my system down to much, i recently went to fix a neighbours pc as he was complaining about it taking 5 mins to boot and to shutdown (i thought he was exagerating) but he wasnt, he said he'd installed norton internet security 2006 and i took it off straight away and from then it was fine.
The trouble is norton installs to much crap .
I installed AVG and sygate firewall and he is very happy.

Norton is the best - by far. I had 2006 A/V and Systemworks installed. But it was such a resource hog, I took it off. Too bad.

Have always been told it is very very dificult to uninstall Norton, some of you seem to be bale to do it easily, whats the story, is it easy??

I just used Control Panel; Add/Remove and "modify" to remove
Norton Personal Firewall and then Norton Antivirus.

I wanted to hang on to NSW2005's other features like Speed Disc, GoBack, CleanSweep, etc. and WinFax Pro.

I installed ZoneAlarm Free and AntiVir Free, both of those are noted for install headaches if your system is not clean and I had absolutly no problems at all.

Now three months after expiration and had to have ZA Block Norton LiveUpdate's repeated attempts to load virus sigs to a non-existant NAV.

I did not remove LiveUpdate as it may have something for the other NSW software, in the future.
