e1705... 7800 and x1400 interchangeable?

Thread Starter
does anyone know if the X1400 will be upgradeable to 7800? i was going to get a duo core e 1705 but now that 7800 is gone i have my doubts... i could get it with x1400 but only knowing that later down the way i will be able to upgrade to 7800... any details on that?

well I know the 7800 can be taken off and I would assume the x1400 isnt soldered on or such. We cant be 100% sure till someone gets one with the ati card, but i would say so.

i dont see why not
Who would buy one with the ATI anyway?
someone that wishes to buy the 7800 go seperately and install it themselves so that they can have it since dell isn't currently offering it

i wonder what dell is charging for a 7800.

would be a waste of money if someone bought it seperate.

theyd have to spend the 100ish to get the x1400 in the first place, then the 200ish to get the 7800 (300ish)

not a good idea to me, id just wait for a 9400 with a better card to come out again, it iwll.

people are just so damn impatient these dayz !

(:

i may be willing to swop out my 7800 for a x1400. i realize i dont play as much games as i want to.
ya same here, the only reason i really got the 7800 was because it was the only choice well besides integrated and thats no good.

Alright Everyone,
I just verified with a DELL technitian that the X1400 IS interchangeable with the 7800 GO. You can get the part from DELL's Spare Parts Devision. It is $325. part # UF804
post #12 of 44
Oh and I just ordered the part, So I will be posting a step by step guide on how to change it as soon as the new part comes in. STAY TUNED!

Preston please keep us up to date. I will be receiving my E1705 early next week and I will want to upgrade. Thanks...

325? Wowza
looks like I got one of the last one's with the Go 7800 being sold... Interesting... Mine just came in yesterday!
If you buy the E1705 with the integrated graphics, can you add an X1400 or 7800 (assuming it's available) later?

Noody
no, its a different mobo.

unless you replace the motherboard. this is how it has been with the 6000/9300...so i assume its the same with the new 1705s

Dont know if anyone has confirmed the fact that the x1400 and 7800 Go are swappable, so I will.

I just got my e1705 in today and a my 7800 Go I ordered from Dell at the same time. I put the new card in and it came up like it was meant to be there.

I installed the drivers, did the auto detect overclock on the card and hit 5651 3DMark05 on a stock windows install from Dell. GPU Temps hit 73c max during 3DMark from what I could tell.

not bad at all. I just ordered my 1705 with the x1400 today, but I'm thinking a 7800 would be a better choice.

Should I spring for the 7800 go or maybe a 7800gtx? Or should I wait for the 7900?

so you can order a E1705 with X1400, and later upgrade to 7800?
is the X1400 "stuck" in the MB? or can it be swaped?
but upgrading does not work with 950 Graphics, because it is integrated?
