I have also looked at the alienware Aurora m7700 but it is much more expensive for the same configuration as the Extreme 64 (approx £3500). Does anyone have any advice on which would be better. Shame they dont come with the dual sli graphics configuration and the awesome fx-60 processor . Or does anyone know of any other machines that i may have overlooked ?

It's been just over an hour, heh.

I'd say SL, the turion is a good chip, not as good as the fx-60 but methinks that the two graphics cards you're going to enjoy the power of those more.

Of course, if you want anything apporaching portable, go for the 64.

USE THE search Function we only have about 6000 threads like this.

i think he wants one, this isnt a thread about like "hey look at this" or something he is asking for buying advice

The problem with the Turion ML42 is that it only has 512KB cache :/

So If I were you I'd go with the FX60, or wait a bit for more 19" options

yea good point, i think there is also an option to get the extreme 64 with the Turion ML44, which i believe has 1mb cache. Im guessing if this were the case then this machine would be the best. Im just worried about the futureproofness(excuse the made up word) of the single core Turion.

IMO (This has nothing to do with the fact that I picked a D900K (FX-60) for myself ) the FX-60 would be a better long term choice, especially if you do more than gaming. The FX-60 is the best processor you will ever find for Socket 939 and the Turion ML-42 is close to the best Turion you will ever find for Socket 754, but the FX-60 is obviously much better than the Turion. GPU wise you'll get much better performance from SLI, of course, but you can always upgrade the GPU (And as we know from past experience, future generations of GPUs will completely obliterate current SLI or single GPU setups). Upgrading 2 GPUs at a time will always prove more expensive than just one. And eventually the Turion will become the bottleneck, and then there's nothing you can do.

Oh yeah, the Turion is single core too, so after more and more games start supporting multiple cores the Turion will fare worse and worse.

you make an excellent point !!

thanks

The dual graphics will get you about 2000 tousand more stock than those with overclocked single cards in 3DMark05. Just imagin what it will do after overclocking it! I would go for the SLI one if you have enough money for it, but note that your mobility would be almost nada, so a desktop would do the job better for cheaper.
