Budget? $ or £?
AMD or Intel?
SLI, Crossfire or single GFX?

Sapphire Radeon X1900XT 512mb GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI ViVO
or Nivida 7900GTX 512MB

Oc'ing or not? Minimum specs, like what is the lowest gpu that you would like to use. PCI-Express card I would guess. More info.

i reccomend a 4000+ san diego, a mid level sli mobo, 1gig of ram and a decent card. you may be able to afford a 7900gt w/out monitor just tower, or 7600gt w/ monitor.

yeah, what im going to be doing is getting a sli board and only get 1 card atm, i would recommend that if you're on a budget.

i would like amd, i would like to oc this gpu, and i heard that asus makes good motherboards, also what is the least amount of watts i should get in a psu. any suggestions
post #13 of 15
i wouldnt buy under 400. ill probably buy 450. ill have 4 HD's, 2 cd's, and my gfx card (150ish$) thatll be enough with the conroe i buy though.

watts matters only so much. stick to the big name brands with PSU's

a 400watt name brand-psu can outperform (in watts) a 480 generic.

It is good to stay with a name brand psu. I ordered 2 7900GTX's and seen on NVIDIA's web site that my psu is not supported any more. I have the PC Power and Cooling 510. Looks like an upgrade to the 1 kilowatt version (never thought it would come to that power wise). Don't skimp on the power though, if you have a cheap psu and it goes bad, the possibility of it taking many other things with it is high.

What is your upgrade path? Do you plan on keeping this build for some time or frequent upgrades? For instance do you plan on upgrading to the AM2 shortly after it comes out. It's best to get the best parts you can that will be able to carry over to the next platform. If you spend a bunch now on DDR memory and plan to upgrade to AM2 which uses DDR2 you will have to buy memory again, that sort of thing.
