Questions before i order

Hi, i will be ordering a Alienware in 2 months, which gives me time to research this great machine. Now as far as the graphics card goes, there is a 7800 and a 6800 Ultra.. i see everyone orders the 6800 Ultra... which is better. Also do you think a 3.4 or a 3.6 proccessor is better? And please post anything else i need to know.

Thanks,
Medawen

Chances are in 2 monthes you probably won't even have the option of either of those video cards. Most companies are making the move to the 7900 series. Alienware is one of the last to even offer 6800's in their systems that I know of at this time.

That aside, the 7800 is a bit more powerful, you'll see higher benchmarks and depending on how you decide to use the system, may or may not pay off for the upgrade. (Assuming you place the order in the near future where you have a choice between those two cards.)

The same really goes for the processor. Will the 200mhz more really make or break how you use it?

The 7800 is the newer card, and outperforms the 6800 ultra.

You should consider going with AMD instead of intel, at the moment the AMD line is outperforming the intel processors.

Its all about what you want. If you're looking for 'top of the line' then get the better GPU and better CPU. I run a 3.2 gig P4 and the 6800Ultra (but thats because I bought mine before the 7800 was availible)
If you're willing to spend the extra 340 dollars for the 7800 then go for it it's is a faster card than the 6800Ultra. Same for the CPU. If you're concerned about that extra .2 Ghz of speed then go for it, but I've had no trouble at all with my 3.2

If money isn't an issue, I'd definitely get the 7800. It performs better and also runs cooler. As for the 3.4 vs 3.6, I'd personally go with the 3.4 because the difference is barely noticeable, the 3.4 is more cost friendly, and it also has a lower power consumption. However, as someone already mentioned, why go with the Intel? It's outdated now that the Aurora is out. For desktop processors in a mobile unit, AMD beats Intel hands down right now.
