SZ 2GB 667Mhz Memory Upgrade: Corsair vs Mushkin?

Hey everyone,

I get my brand new SZ160 via UPS today and I had a quick question. I was able to score the Muskin 2GB 667mhz PC2-5300 pack of memory from Fry's/Outpost for only $180 (after tax).

I also bought 2GB woth of the PC2-5300 667mhz Corsair Value Memory which will cost me $240 (after tax and $20 mail in rebate).

My question is, should I just stick with the Muskin at $60 cheaper, or is Corsair really that much better ans worth the extra $ as I seem to be reading on different forums?

Any and all input is truly appreciated!

Thanks,
Hayden

Both are top notch brands, go with whichever is cheaper. Crucial/Corsair/Mushkin are the 3 premiums.

Usually Mushkin is the more expensive stuff so good buy.

Mushkin at Fry's

Well I went into a Dell forum where people were saying that they found Mushkin PC2-4200 533Mhz Memory at Fry's mislabeled and it was really PC2-5300 667Mhz. I went to Fry's, picked it up, and indeed while the sticker said PC2-4200, the actually memory chips say 667Mhz. It runs $169.99 before tax!

I figured its a good deal so I'll just stick with the Mushkin as long as it works.

Thanks for everyones help!

could you do me a favor? run Sandra's memory mark with both stock PC4200 and the PC5300 memory and post back with the memory bandwidth score?? I really want to see IF there's any bandwidth advantage on using the (much higher latency) PC5300 before I'll upgrade mymemory.

Thank!!

Outpost is running a special on the 1gb 667mhz memory - $177 for 2 sticks of 1gb memory.

There is also a $20 rebate on each stick, netting $137.

I don't see that pricing anywhere on the outpost site. It shows as $94.99.

You can only get one $20 rebate per household, so the net price is $169.98 before tax and shipping. Still not bad. The rebate expires today, March 21.

This is the correct type of RAM for the Sony SZ correct? Fry's gave me the incorrect chips when I bought them in-store.
