I had been lurking here for a bit and I finally ordered my new notebook.

I sold my desktop to become mobile

I was on the fence about upgrading from the Pentium M 1.7 to the 2.0 but I chose the faster one.

What do you guys think?

On pahse 3 now....cant wait. Est. shipping date of 3/29...think they will make it ontime?

Looks like your specs are pretty close to the 5500 I ordered.

Welcome to the Alienware family and the phase game!

I wouldn't count too much on making the estimated shipping date. Mine was Feb. 20th, and I'm still waiting on my laptop (parts backordered).

How long are people generally waiting? Anyone get thiers early...?

i got mine (as in sitting at my door) 2 days before the estimated ship date, but that was a couple months back... seems like everyone is delayed at the moment cause of the screen shortage.

Ya the only thing on my list that said would be delayed was the screen. Both options for the LCD were delayed.

Yeah, BOTH screen options say "may delay your order" now. Either choice sets you back.

I Ordered My 5700 On March 3. Was On Phase Three All Last Week. So I Sent An E-mail Today. The Reply Back Was The Screen Is On Back Order And They Do Not Have A Date On When It Will Be There. Was To Be Shipped March 14. Guess That Is Not Going To Happen. I'm Sure The Wait Will Be Well Worth It.

having mine here i know it really is worth it...

I ordered my m5700 on March 2nd with an estimated ship date of the 13th.. called today and its in phase 5.. so it wont be making the estimated ship date... but i am excited and will let you know when mine comes
post #13 of 26
I'm in the exact same boat... Placed my order on 3-9-06, estimated ship date of the 27th. Same part on backorder. This screen is killing me, but it'll be worth the wait.

So here I sit, at phase 3. However according to them when I called, I'm really in phase 4. (But I don't think it matters, because its still a 2 week wait.)

Still on phase 3...

Im glad i ordered it when they offered free 1gig RAM and 100 instant rebate. If i were to get the same setup today I would be spending over 200 more!

I ordered pretty much the same unit back on 5 March. Today , obviously, is the wearing of the green, and I am still sitting at Phase 3. Like everyone is saying ...... backorder on the screens. I got an email from Alienware this afternoon with a 20th of March receipt date for the screen. Sorta strange that they said it was still on schedule. Hmmm. Originally the ship date was today. Not likely. I anticipate that at best it might go into early April based on all the data points I can find.

Make sure when you receive the computer that it comes with the second hd kit. It's basically the bracket that holds two drives and the cable.

Ewolff got a 5700 and they forgot to stick the kit in the box, so he had to call them, but they sent it to him I believe...

Looks like a nice portable and powerful computer.

They probably meant it's on schedule for their estimated date plus the delay to get the screen... Hope it gets there soon and it's worth the wait.

I am fairly certain that it will be worth the wait but sometimes it is hard to swallow the phase game frustrations. A lot of money is spent to obtain an AW and not clear to me that the customer is looked upon kindly by the AW company. They are successful only because of the customer ..... not that I am particulary frustrated or anything. Now I am not sure if I am looking more forward to getting the machine or getting out of the phase game spiral ......

LOL i feel the same way.

A friend of mine ordered a desktop from AW about 2 years ago and he never had any problems. Hes had to call tech support a few times but they were able to sort it out over the phone.

I think that people come here to complain about service and dont generally post thier success stories.

I am almost 1 week in and on phase 3 so we'll see how it goes. Kinda frustrating to give a company over 2000$ and all you get for a few weeks is a crazy phase game. Would be better in my mind if they charged it when it shipped.

With that said I am sure I will be happy with my new lappy and I cant wait for it to get here.

This is the first company that I have dealt with that actually takes the money up first prior to ship ...... I guess I can live with that though. Living with it is not exactly liking it but if all else goes OK ..... then I am sure it will be easily forgotten ...... I will show that I am not a negative dude: ..... Alienware , I believe , had a server hickup when I first ordered and for some reason ... I was charged for two separate lappies. So, I rushed to the phone and called them. They recognized the fact that I was charged twice and immediately rectified it with my credit card company. Big kudo out to them for that. It could have gotten ugly given what kind of paperwork my credit card company was going to ask for should this go into a dispute mode. So strike one for the delay in the build process and ball one for the credit card fix. And the game goes on ........
