Recommendation Wanted: Gaming Notebook

Hi, I'm new to these forums, and have been reading a couple of days, but haven't seen a post for what I'm looking for exactly, so I figured I'd start it myself.

I'm looking for a notebook PC to support my gaming habits. Typically I build my own PCs, usually doing upgrades on essential components every two years. Buying the notebook would replace my usual upgrade budget, and I'll be able to up it. But, that means that I won't be able to upgrade my desktop for another couple years, meaning that the notebook will pretty rapidly replace my desktop for any new games coming out for awhile.

Portability isn't a huge concern, as it will mostly sit on my lap in the living room... I won't be doing a ton of travel that will require me to be on battery life.

I have a budget of about $3,500 max. I've been looking into Alienware and Dell, but only because I don't know too much about the laptop market... I've heard the obligatory "Alienware/Dell sucks" arguments, and am interested in the alternatives.

Currently I mostly play World of Warcraft and Battlefield 2, though I want something that can handle some of the more intense graphical games too.

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forums

I would suggest you look at Sager notebooks. Just google it.

Deffenetly look into Sager for a nicely priced powernotebook.

However, I think, for what you do you should stick with desktop compouters. Just my opinoin.

There are very good laptops out there, especially for a budget of 3500$. You should pay extra attention to graphics card for games. And should look for many brands other than dell, alienware, sony or toshiba. For instance asus, acer, hp/compaq, msi etc.

go to hypersonic-pc.com, look at the fx7 and the ex7, you can also get cool paintjobs on them, look at the dell xps 170,the alienware aurora 7700, area 51 7700, and sager 9750

For $3500 you can get an AMD64 x2 4800+ 2.2mhz, nvidia 7800 GTX 256 mb, 100gb 7200rpm sata drive, dual layer dvd/cd burner, built in camera, docking ports(vga, serial, and p/s2, so no docking station needed, ever) 5 in one card read, and a 17inch WUXGA 1920x1600 display, at PCTorque.

Actually, mine was only $3450.

hit up PCTorque, and check out the 9750.

Do you really need a notebook? That is the most important question.

Thanks for the responses. I'll definitely check out your recommendations!

Do I need a notebook? I'd say yes... Family concerns dictate it...

if the reason u want a laptop over a desktop is portability most likely you don't want something the weighs over 10 lbs.
