XPS M140 Just Received Quick Review

Hi everyone,
I just received my XPS M140 that I got from the Dell Outlet.
My first impression was WOW this machine looks great. Then I went to test the machine, mainly the screen which I have heard extreme horror stories about. The screen was fantastic. It looked great comparable to the 700M that I have. The weight of the notebook is very light not as light as my 700m but very similar. There is No blacklight bleeding but the viewing angle could be better. I ran some dead pixel test and could not find any. I'm happy as can be because of so much worries about getting a Samsung screen.
Here are the specs:
1.86 Ghz
1 GB DDR2 Ram 2dimms
Media Center
Bluetooth
60 Gb 7200rpm
6 cell battery
8x dvd+rw
14.1 inch truelife
Wireless Card
Previously Ordered New

i purchase it for $861 before tax and shipping.
With shipping and tax it came to $966. I also got all the DVDs and CDs shipped to me NEXT Day delivery tommorrow.

The screen model is QDS 0046. Are there any reported better screen than this one? What are you guys opinions on the XPS M140?

How did you get it so cheap? $818 after shipping and tax for a 1.86ghz previously ordered new is a steal. I'm so jealous!!!!!!!

Just ask them for it. They will tell you that it is preinstalled blah blah then they will offer to send it out to you. How is your screen? Any black light bleeding , dead pixel, etc....

I agree. The QDS LCD is verrry nice. Extremely bright, evenly lit, no leakage, and no sparklies.

Oh, and mine is for sale here:

I just added some pics to my For Sale listing. Take a look if you want to see the beautiful QDS display compared to my very nice 9400 LG WUXGA display.

You're so lucky!~
My screen is Samsung ~

How can you find out what kind of screen you have?
Get PowerStrip: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm to find what kind of screen you have OR open up your LCD.

If I was you, and have no troubles with my screen, I wouldn't run Powerstrip. If you do find out that your screen is a Samsung (SECXXXX), then you won't like it anymore.

It says that I have a Plug and Play monitor, model ID AUO0144.

What brand is this?
You've got an AUO. They also make the LCD on the 700m (that everybody loves). How do you like it?

Hello, everyone, just placed an order for XPS 140m from dell outlet.
PM 1.73G
60G HDD
512M 2 dimm
9 cell battery
8xDVD RW
It is a certified refurbished one, got it for $633 including tax and shipping.
Is there any advice for refurbished laptops? It's gonna be my first laptop.
Thanks!

I have not a single complaint as yet. Screen looks beautiful to me (though I imagine I'm not as much of a critic as other people here). I've been looking for the light leakage and can hardly find any. I take it this model LCD is generally liked by everyone?

How about an opinion on the deal I got on the following specs?

My specs:
1.86 Ghz
1 GB DDR2 Ram 2dimms
Media Center
Bluetooth
80 Gb 5400rpm
6 cell battery
8x dvd+rw
Wireless Card (Intel Pro 2915)

Paid $1012 brand new after shipping and tax over a month ago.

It's a good deal, however you might have saved couple hundred $$$ if you waited for some better deals. But other than that, I wouldn't advise you to return the product based on the opinions you get at this forum.
Well there's always a way to save more, and usually that's by waiting. All hindsight now. I used three different coupons on it which was lucky, cause when I built it, the price was around 1450.

I always could wait for the dual core to come out in XPS, I could wait for Vista, etc etc. Keep waiting and I'll never actually buy the computer, lol.

I got the exact same configuration except with a 60gb 7200rpm for $966 at the dell outlet, Previously Ordered New. It was a brand new dell XPS M140 that was cancel during the ordering process. Check you your system information for that 8x dvd+rw. That was what was listed on my notebook too but when I checked it was an 8x double layer burner. Model is NEC 6650 or something along those lines. I also got the intel pro 2915 with Dell Bluetooth. That is a really good price for a Brand New after ship and tax because you have the option to return. Check if the screen and everything properly place where it should be (eg screen, lid etc is align properly). By the way did you get the truelife screen?

Does anybody have a pic of the Dell M140 with blacklight bleed. I can't tell if mine have blacklight bleed or if it is just the angle of my viewing.

I have the Sony double layer burner, used it about 50 times already in the last month, lol. I didn't get the true life screen because I heard it's terrible in sunlight. I was a bit nervous getting this computer after reading all the bad feedback in the forums, but I have to say it exceeded my expectations. I really don't have a single complaint, even with the integrated graphics. It plays every game that I've loaded onto it without a hitch. But I didn't buy this computer for its gaming possibilities, that was just a bonus.
