Fujitsu owners! Or others that have been blessed with the amazing screen technologies:
I'd like to show off my N5010's glamerous desktop potentional by using a nice, rich, colorful wallpaper..
It needs to support a resolution of 1400x1050.
Any sites that you helpful members could point me to? I'd be a nice find, Thanks!

Check out the themes section at tucows, there's a lot of stuff to sort through but you may find something good.

I have ordered a N5010 and have a question about it; Does it have a video in port? I noticed there is only 1 S-Video port, and I assume that is out only. I was hoping to transfer some video to DVD.

By video in, I assume a TV Tuner card..
No, there isn't one, But I think there are USB versions out there..
I'm not all that into watching TV on the computer as I tend to think the quality is very skeptical..

No, I don't mean a TV tuner. I mean a straight svideo in. My old thinkpad has an svideo in; I can plug a camera , VCR or any device that puts out a composite video signal.

droo: I might have good news .. I'd seems strange though, I've emailed Ivan at Global Computers concerning the issue, because I was not familiar with this..
"Yes just bring the laptop with you to a place, such as, radio shack to get the correct S cable so you can, if you want to use S video."
It seems strange though because the specifications listed on Fujitsu's site says s-video out..
Maybe he misunderstood..

If Fujitsu says that it's S-Video out, then it must be S-Video out. There is no way that those things are bidirectional. To have Video in the laptop must have a A/D converter. Most do not have that. They only have a RAMDAC.

Thanks for clearing that up deltawalker, Nice tid-bit of information to know.
So an external USB TV Tuner card would allow us to capture video from other sources?

A pure TV tuner would not have an analogue video input except for a coaxial input. However, most tv tuners do include an S-Video and a composite video input. Make sure it has those ports when looking at tv tuners. If you intend to capture video to perform non-linear video editing, then do get a more professional IEEE1394 based analogue capture device, such as the Canopus ADVC100. Conventional tv tuners has very bad performance in capturing. The professional capture devices produces very good quality on the other hand.

TV USB2.0 with S-video

Check this review.

Allows USB 2.0 input through s-video.

Thanks for all the help. It looks like a USB based capture device may be the best solution.

I was expecting to receive the N5010 laptop today, but just found out it won’t even be shipped until February 6th. This put me in a huge bind, so I had to switch my order to the 2.8 GHz model because they are in stock and can be here by tomorrow. I guess it will be identical to the one I originally ordered, but with a slower 2.8 GHz cpu as opposed to 3.0Ghz. They are both hyperthreading CPUs with 800 Mhz fsb.

I suppose in the grand scheme of things, I won’t really notice the slightly slower CPU. It just bums me out a bit…..

I've been using my n5010 through firewire- with my Sony trv-20 that will do the digital conversion through either the rca to mini pin on the camera or by s-video. And as previously stated, the N5010 only has s-video out.
If you look around you may find a DV camera for not that much more money considering all the advantages you get.

Check out digitalblasphemy.com. They have some awesome CG wallpapers. You do need a subscription to receive the resolution you want. I checked out the N5010 at JandR and it's screen changed my laptop buying prioriety. However the weight is still unacceptable for me. If Fujitsu ever releases a Sonoma based notebook with a CV screens I will be all over it. BTW do you know some additional specs for the screen besides 600:1 contrast and 350cd/m^2? I've been trying to get specs from Fujitsu but so far no avail. Just what makes the screen so bright? Is it like the XBrite, which has dual fluorescent tubes instead of one?
