If the bult in card isn't good enough, what would be a good replacement?

So if i decided to get a diferent wireless card all i would have to do is switch the computer off and take out the existing card and put in the new one?

yea good question, what would you need to do if the internal one is not good enough?

You would disable the internal one (I would take it out all together) and install the new on in the PCMCIA slot in the side of the chassis. You want to stay away from the mini pci option in this computer, for some reason that is yet to be determined, if you want max speed and distance.

And i would need to open the pc up is it just on the side?

They keyboard comes off and you can access the mini card. The new card would go in the slot in the side (no surgery necessary for this).

So you'd pop the keyboard off, take out the built-in card, put the keyboard back on, and insert the new card in the side? I think i got it! lol

Emerald,

A lot of these topics will make more sense to you when you've got a laptop in front of you for reference. For now you can head to the Pictures forum and see. Enjoy!

I'm all for not opening this thing at all when I get it (except to update the GPU ) but if I do need to use a PCMCIA card for optimal wireless connectivity, I can disable the internal one via software, correct? Or must I open the beast?

Yes, i also want to avoid having to open it up.

I've not done this switch so therefore I cannot answer from experience. Logic would say you could just turn off the minipc via the keyboard switch but assuming things...well you know how that can go.

Braingoo should be able to answer this as he has a PCMCIA card installed. Wait till he pops in today.

I just received my area 51 2 days ago. Iwas not happy with the internal wireless card so I went and bought a linksys card. I disabled the internal card. the new card works alot better. You do not need to take out the nternal.

Ok good, because i have an extra card lieing around here somewhere so when i get the lappy and if i'm not satisfied i was going to change it. I am glad that i won't have to open it or anything. I don't want to run any risk.

I also had a non-functional wireless card upon receipt and have sent it back to depot repair. If it comes back with ONE scratch or does not work, AW is going to get the whole thing back.
