nx560 kinda slow, can it be made faster ?

Hi,

I recently received the GTW nx560xl (2ghz duo core) and It appears slow when opening applications. The boot up time is longer then on my old P4 1.8ghz desktop.

I have orderd 512 Ram in and there's plenty of free memory shown in the Task Maneger.

I read that Acer 8204 is lighting fast when opening programs.

If I added 2GB 667 mhz RAM would I have simmilar performance even though
I have ATI X1400 video card in my laptop ?

Does 5400rpm HD really slows things down ? I think 8204 also has 5400rpm disk.

The 5400 RPM disk is considerably faster than what amany machines comes with , a 4200RPM, but still not as fast as the 7200RPM. If what you are feeling is slow boot times and app loading, it is most likely the HDD giving youthat feeling though. That is the two things that will benefit most form a faster HDD.

The newer 7200RPM notebook drives (7k100 series) are comparable in transfer speeds to an IDE 720RPM drive. Even the older (7k60 series) makes a diffference, but the 7k100 line put a pretty nice boost on it's elders performance.
