Compaq R4010.... 1 or 2 mem slots?

Hello, I just bought a Compaq R4010 with 768MB of memory. I was expecting 2 modules, 1 256mb and 1 512mb but I found just the 512mb when I opened the mem slot.
Is the 256mb integrated? do I need to remove something alse to remove it?
Thanks

... the 2nd module is under the keyboard. its a strange design...dont ask

Thanks for the info. I'll take the 256Mb off, so that the single channel is going to be matched with only 1 memory module.
Is a single stick of 2GB memory going to work? When available of course.....

Also, I was thinking about Opteron since the limited cache size of this Sempron makes the CPU a tad slower....
Is the laptop going to work or it won't even turn on?

Thanks

Im sure a single 2gb stick will work, whenever they become available, but why not buy 2 1 gig sticks. If u have a 2gb stick then ur other slot is unused, and its not like u can put more in there anyway.

Also, an opteron in a laptop???? A sempron an an opteron are completely different sockets, so ull never get that cpu in there. U can pop a socket 754 athlon 64, or a turion 64 in there and it will work fine.

yeah. forget 2gb ram modules, get 2x1gb and if system allows, do it so you have dual channel ram. as for the CPU find a 754 turion and you'll be ok. I am highly pushing for the turion because AMD64 (at least the 82w versions) don't give you enough battery life (i would know, i have an 82w amd64 3200+ socket 754...get hardly 2 hours, thats with a gb of ram, 7200rpm hdd, and ati 9700)

Ehm, the R4000 is a socket 939!
That's why I am asking for the Opteron...

I'll stik with the 1GB module.... it has infineon C-5 chips after all.
I am not going for the 2X1GB kit because I found out that the dual channel is not activated!
Too bad! I am happy with the ATI PATA controller... much better than nVidia!!!

Now the only problem I have is to find more info on how to release the damn heatsink!!!

The R4000 is not dual channel capable even though it's socket 939.

CONFIRMED!!! Infact if i try to activate it with A64tweaker the system halts! That's why I want just 1 module!
However I've noticed that the difference in performance between CL3 and CL2.5 is significant, it's actually so big that a 2x512MB CL2.5 @ 166mhz performce better than 1GB module CL3 @ 200nhz!!! I couldn't beleive myself!!!
The bandwidth is the same, but in real world everyday life, the latency has more impact than pure numbers!

I have an infineon 1Gb CL3 @ 200MHZ but I'll have to look for a 1Gb CL2.5.... I can't stand the system at CL3

You actually notice a real life difference between cl2.5 and cl3???

You must be a machine, and i meant that in a good way...

I have an IBM E7K60 server hardrive, I guess this is the reason that makes easy to see the difference between the 2 CL lantecies.....

The system is super fast don't get me wrong, I am 150% satisfied with my choice, but I prefer super tight timings.
Even on my desktop is the same.... I use 2-2-2-5 with a divider!
