Hi guys many of you were very helpful before and after the purchase of my Toshiba laptop but I have one more favor to ask you guys.

The weirdest thing just happened to my laptop while I was surfing the internet. I really wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary just looking at some soccer websites. All of a sudden my screen blinked to a odd green color and now i am pretty sure I have a dead pixel on the right side of my screen. i have moved my laptop from my desk all of 5 times when i took it to university and the last time was about a month ago. i have not dropped it or anything and the most I ever do is close the screen and move it to the side on my desk

I purchased my laptop from Staples during the boxing day sale so i dont think I can return it there as it is well outside their 14 day return date. However do I have a claim at all with Toshiba as the company?

likely not if the problem is not a recurring one and if it is only one dead pixel. if it is many of them you could try to get it under warranty.

unfortunately your not going to get that fixed..... not for one pixel

one pixel is not covered under warranty... they sometimes make exceptions when there are a few in a bunch/cluster, but one isnt close to enough

usually it has to have at least! 3 dead pixels! ..or more!

I'd still try and bring it to a Toshiba repair facility. They're not going to replace the screen over a single dead pixel, but you could have them look into the connections and video card/chip to see what that green flash was all about. Better to have it checked out now rather than later have it go bad after the warranty expires.

Do a search here in NBF there are several threads about dead pixels, how to diagnose them and how some people have managed to massage a dead pixel back to life.

Good news guy i dont know what happened but the dead pixel is gone. i was 100% positive it was there before. I pinpointed exaclt where it was but then left my laptop off for two days while I was away. I come hope turn it on and there is absolutely no trace of the dead pixel anywhere on the screen.

Should I still be worried about that random green screen flash that happened to me? I called the customer service center and they reiterated what you said about not being able to do much about one dead pixel. However the guy had no real clue on what to do about the green screen and said if it happens again to call them about it. Im just wondering if this has happened to any of you guys with Toshiba machines and if there is some way I can chack myself to see if there is a serious problem.

Congrat's. If the guy said to call back if it happens again, then do that. Maybe it was a one time thing.

You really don't have dead pixels-- rather, stuck pixels.

Wikipedia: "A stuck pixel is a common pixel defect on LCD screens, where any number of the 3 sub-pixels are faulty, producing (most commonly) permanent red, green and blue pixels on the screen. Similar to (and often falsely labeled as) a dead pixel, whose 3 sub-pixels are permanently off, producing a black pixel. While one is not very noticeable on a high definition screen, stuck pixels tend to occur in groups, and are most easily noticed on dark or black screens."

If it happens to your screen again (as stuck pixels can come and go), go to http://www.widowpc.com/2005/08/fix_dead_pixels.php to download a program that fixes them (it's free!!).

does massaging them out really work? Also, I heard there are apps tthat you could use that refresh your screen at a very fast rate, in hopefully fix your "stuck?" pixels?

In some cases it is supposed to work. Obviously if the pixel is really dead then it won't. But if it's just stuck (and looks like it's dead) then it can be rescued.

A friend of mine just told me that he had a dead pixel on his T23 - actually it was green - but after 2 weeks it dissapeared as it appeared and now the screen is perfect again.
