Sound volume

Is there any way at all to increase the volume of the sound above the "maximum" stipulated in the Windows control panel or the realtek driver control panel? I'm just using onboard sound on my 51 M7700, and the sound isn't really loud enough for DVDs and the like (it's loud enough for games though)

There are seperate settings for some audio codecs (like AC3). Are you running movies that use any of these decoder codecs?

I have the same problem; games are plenty loud, but DVD's aren't. Can't help you with a solution though sorry.

I'm not sure about the 7700, I've got a 5500...

But you can make sure all the volumes are turned up in the control panel for both the realtek software, and in windows volume control.

With my computer, I can adjust the volume through the Xgear software and turn the volume up to 112%...

Also make sure you have the volume turned up in your dvd software...

Make sure you are using the 'powerful' setting in the realtek control panel ... (iirc it is called sound effect manager)

I had this problem also, and I found out there is a reg tweak on the AW support site that will fix it. I haven't been able to try it out yet, as my laptop is still in depot, but it looked promising.

I'm not sure if this will work, but I'll post the meat here:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CyberLink\PowerDVD]
"master volume control"=dword:00000018

that makes sense.I'll try it. see if it works. My games are fine so it has to be a power dvd thing.

neg. no luck

Damn. I was hoping that would work. All my mp3s, WMVs, MPEGs, etc. work fine volume-wise, but whenever I play any DVD through the PowerDVD decoder (whether through the supplied DVD software or Windows Media Player), I can barely hear it at all and have to use external speakers.

I wonder, has anyone tried different DVD Decoders? I'll try when/if I get mine back, but you know...

I use the latest nvidia pure video decoder to veiw DVD's and set the audio setting in it to late night and it works great.

Actually, I just remembered I got that reg fix from the PowerDVD site, the Alienware one wouldn't let me download for some reason. Go to AW support, knowledge base, and type in "dvd volume" and click on the question:

"What can I do if I still get low volume while using PowerDVD even after setting it to its maximum level?"

and it lists troubleshooting steps, one of the last ones being the reg fix. I can't, I get a:

Fatal Error

I realize that some of you have external speakers hooked up with your lappies. Is it possible to have a stereo setup with the onboard speakers and subwoofer (i have m7700) and two external speakers and another external subwoofer?

I played around with the Realtek settings but had no luck. If any of you can help me out, thatll be great. Thanks.

Here is the download. Haven't tested it.

in power dvd, goto config, then goto audio, then click on advance, then set it for noisy enviroment.

also power dvd starts off at 50% sound setting when you first turn it on for the very first time...

I think it's because powerdvd wants you to have to pay to have good sound. you can upgrade powerdvd through the config. if you don't it'll only use two speakers.I could be wrong though.

Things are much louder now that I tweaked my codec settings. Thanks!
