PDA ideas

Well I am becoming overwealmed with email and missed meetings. And since I am never at my desk I need a PDA to keep my meetings in order. Also to hold other tidbits like door codes, and stuff.

What should I get? From past expierence I don't like Palm OS at all, I am partial to Widnows on a PDA. Any suggestions?

I like it, but it may be a bit overkill.

Any range is ok, I am just thinking of how to my functionality without paying for all the extra features I will never use.

I need something that I can keep in my pocket (I'm in pretty good shape so I can fit a PDA in my pockets easy) however still slim. Something that makes noise when I have a meeting It needs to interface with Outlook and thats about it.

Sony Ericsson P900 [search for Sony P900] - It's an open OS, like Linux, and TONS of apps! Great design, + camera, touchscreen, phone, wap/internet, everything

Heres something that IS over kill

a Nokia 9290 Communicator off ebay.... I just ordered one today.... Its a phone that opens in half to a widescreen and a full keyboard.... Its a little large but you can get one for about 250$... It also has a great built in speakerphone and all you have to do is swap out the sim cards and presto instant service.... It can access Outlook, etc via the cellular network...

Dell is a good way to go.

I have a Dell Axim (400Mhz). I think it's great. Lots of third party stuff for it. I have a water proof case and a rhino case plus the dell provided case. I also have a camera that I can plug into the CF card slot. I have a wireless network card for it, which is way cool. I can surf the internet while I'm on the patio outside. I can ping other machines on my network, etc. Really cool. I have 1GB of external storage for it (meaning two 512 MB CF cards and one 256 MB SD card).
It can do anything any other pda can do. Not only that it's only $300. The iPAQ series is more expensive (I realize price isn't a concern for you). It has pocket pc 2003 (probably comes with 2004 now). I do admit that I do like the iPAQs but I wouldn't have bought one of those over my Dell. I plug it into the hot sync cradle and it downloads all my email via outlook express. It has handwritting recognition (which I'm sure all of them have) software. I hand write notes all the time on mine and it almost never makes a mistake interpreting my handwritting. PDAs have really matured the last year. That is why I finally decided to buy one last May. I put videos and pictures and appointments and games on mine. When I'm waiting to have my oil changed I just pull out my PDA and entertain myself. These things are great. I wonder how I lived without one. I recommend a Dell Axim especially if all you want to do is save appointments and store email. The Dells are a lot less expensive than the rest. Though I think the others are lowering their prices because of Dell entering the PDA market and low balling everyone else. That is good for consumers.

Here are some pictures of my Dell with wireless card, case, and memory cards laid out.

The black rectangle is my phone number and name redacted. It's not a problem with my axim display.

I thought I had posted on this already.. odd :P

I have an hp iPaq h5400, integrated bluetooth, 802.11b.. it's got a biometric scanner (neat geek toy that loses it's appeal quickly ).

It's overkill though, I use it for everything from controlling my home theatre system, network access at the office, notes, e-mail, messenger, web browsing. It cost me $1200CDN.

Uhh, I got it for free though Macromedia sent me a Sony NX70V (gallery) which was neat, but I didn't like the palm OS -- I had a Palm IIIxe, even the new version isn't much better. It also didn't have integrated wireless and palm OS doesn't support any of the good features of flash (network, XML (????), file system access). I sold it and bought the iPaq..

If I had a second choice I'd go for a Dell Axim, good little machine, very comparable to the iPaq.
