Turion CPU upgrade - Sager 4750V (D470K) - Page 7

Awesome news SteveW.

I will check on the newer version of RMClock. This software is pretty slick and a god send for many of us. Thanks for the heads up.

Let us know then if AMD's new driver is worth the downbload and install.

On the matter of coolers: You are absolutely right- a notebook cooler should not be an option especially if people buy notebooks with their own money .

Just as an inspiration to others, would you be able to post some pics of your cooler?

No Fan! Woohoo!

Last night I downloaded the new AMD Turion driver and the new RMClock Beta, and set the RMClock up according to the screenshots on page 5 of this thread.

Today I sat down at my laptop and the fan wasn't on! Felt so odd, sitting there in silence for like a whole ten minutes before the temperature went up a degree or so and kicked the fan on low. If I hook up a tiny silent fan, maybe the laptop fan won't kick on at all.

4750/D470K MT-40 freeze-up

Hi,
I upgraded my Clevo D470k with a Turion MT-40 and having the problem with the notebook not running on cool & quiet mode. When I use RM clock with the settings as on page 5 the notebook freezes randomly.... Any idea somebody?

You may have to play with the minimum and maximum voltages.

The MT parts are typically rated at 1.2Volts (max)

Obviously, the MT-40 will also have a lower maximum multiplier. I am not sure how the MT CPU series fare in the D470K platform, but I suspect the ML series may be more tolerant of any voltage discrepancy as mine has proven to be.

Undervolting or overvolting these CPU's to much can easily cause lockups. Give the voltages a try and try to tweak these until your MT runs solid.

The other thing you may want to check is the effective windows power scheme. it should be set to RMClock Power Management.

I changed the minimum voltage from 0.800V to 0.850V and the maximum from 1.275V to 1.200V. Both values I can find in AMD's documentaton to the MT-40. The multiplier is limited to a max of 11.0x by default, means I cannot even select 12.0x......
In the power-schema of Windows I set RM clock already.....BTW - using Windows's schemas I have no problem besides the CPU running on 2.2 GHz at all times.

What wonder's me quite a bit is the problem happens mainly when I download something via my WLAN-card. I am using an Atheros-card now because of XP64-support (what I don't use now....). When I received the Notebook there was an Intel 2200BG installed that caused the Machine to stop with black-screen frequently. I wonder if there is a root to both symptoms
I didn't test that yet with the wired LAN, but that comes next

regards...

Hey there! I have a few questions about the processor. Is it dual core, and how does it compare with my 470k 3400 DTR processor? And pricing. I'm having issues with my screen right now and I have to send the lappy in for repair. The sound is starting to get to me though in classes. Sounds like a jet engine when rendering. But the major issue now is dealing with Phillips and getting my screen and firewire port repaired.

I'm afraid our machines will never be able to have a dual core CPU. As far as I know, there have been dual core engineering samples, but the only dual core Turions available to the public shall be on a new socket factor not pin compatible with our machines.

I would suggest you repair your machine first before considering a CPU upgrade. On a clock for clock basis the Turions are faster and much cooler than your 3400 Clawhammer.

I didn't read the entire thread but did anyone got an Turion MT working in a 4750? If yes I'm ordering mine right now, even if I cannot find a retail one, which seems to be pretty rare i guess.

Alright I bought the chip anyway (mt-40), could you send me the bios please? (ardakara at gmail.com)

Thanks a lot in advance..

Was just thinking that the chassis looked familiar... congratulations on your less noisy beauty.

Ok so I never got around to selling my D470K here so I figured what the hell... I have a turion coming in the mail but looking at my Heat sink I'm looking at not just a flat piece of contact material. There's a small rubberized grommet and then inside that grommet there's a layer of thermal epoxy which has a silver shim almost pressed into it. Anyone know what i'm talking about or if this can be removed for better conductivity?
I'll see if I can get some pictures up here in a second.

Here's what I'm talking about.

Basically i've had to apply my AS5 to my cpu core directly, which is normal, and then pray to all things holy that that thing isn't causing any kind of interferance. Does anyone else have that horrid thing on there? If not any ideas how i can get it off? The epoxy doesn't seem completely solid... maybe a good afternoon with a plastic knife.

I sugest you gently remove the factory epoxy and clean the contact area in heat skink with a 600 grit sand paper. It is important that we remove whatever compound was used by your clawhammer before attempting to install a smaller core CPU like a Turion.

Once the surface of the heat sink is shiny and smooth (don't over do it) we can apply a very thin-even layer of lithium thermal grease or a high performance compound (Artic Silver, etc) to both the heatsink and the Turion's core.

Cheers;
