STEP-BY-STEP Screen Replacement for ACER TM8200 - Page 2

Finally got round to taking some pictures of the WUXGA screen in my 8204 from various angles:

oh man that looks awesome. Can you get the Dell Latitude D800 screen from dell.com? or do you have to buy it on ebay? If i bought it, I'd like to buy it direct from dell as I would feel more comfortable doing that.

If you can find the part number then I'm sure you could get it from Dell but as I said, mine was out of an old D800.

You could also try Screentek since they should be able to find the right sort of screen but for a slightly lower price. The mounting points on my screen were exactly the same as pictured in roughcut's guide but it had a couple of tiny points for attaching an inverter (although they didn't cause any problems).

Aside from the viewing angles, you can't really tell anything from that picture...if your colors are screwed then his screen will show up screwed on yours.

Well the colours are fine, but that wasn't the problem with the Samsung screen, it was the bringtness and viewing angles...

Too be honest, there's no need to get worried about a 15.4" WUXGA screen since the text is generally no smaller than the text in a paperback novel. I've never got eyestrain from my screen, something I can't say for the original panel in the 8204 which gave me the same sort of headache (or eyeache) that DLP projectors seem to give me.

The increase in screen real estate may not sound like much, but it is very noticeable. After using a WUXGA screen for 3 years, everything else feels like I'm looking through a letterbox.

I have the acer travelmate 8204 WLMI too and it has a broken screen, I have tried to replace the screen with a new one that I have purchased from the USA. The screen I ordered was a NEW DELL LATITUDE D800 15.4" WUXGA+ LCD

Make: Sharp
Model: LQ154M1LW02
Resolution 1920x1200
P/N: U0674
Inverter
Flex Cable.

They have however sent me a different one....

Make: Samsung
Model: LTN154U1-L01
P/N: cannot see this on the wrapper
inverter: this is a different size to the one existing in the laptop!!
Flex cable: not in the package!!!

OK, because the mounting screws and size etc looked the same I went ahead and replaced the screen as per the instructions in this thread and all went well. I could not replace the inverter because it was a different size to the existing one so left the existing one in. When I powered up the laptop the screen remained black, I checked again the connections everything was plugged in properly but still nothing.

I have put back the existing broken screen and that powers up ok so nothing was damaged during the replacement process.

I have emailed the company concerned pointing out that the screen I ordered and the screen that arrived is different to advertised. As I am novice at this type of thing I welcome any thoughts or advice anyone can offer as I am not sure what the problem is, here is a link to the screen I bought from them:
