I had to send my Area 51m 7700 back to Alienware. Anyone know what the average turn around time is? Let's assume it's something minor. Which, I think it is.

13-14 days for turn around, plus shipping. but i have usually recieved mine a few days before that.

Depends on what is wrong with it.... Right now, I'd be most worried if it had something to do with the screen. 20 business days is supposed to be the ultimate worst-case scenario. (complete mobo reinstallation) But it seems that everything having to do with the screen is backordered now.

What problem are you having?

Usually the turn around is pretty quick, but if they don't have a part you need in stock it can take a while. Right now there's a shortage of lcd screens for the industry, and a few other parts that may cause delays.

The problem is that the screen doesn't brighten. The backlight comes on. But, it's dim as if it was turned all the way down. The guy who did the service call thinks that it's the LCD. I think it's the Video card. The original card was replaced. And, that's when this whole mess started. I'm thinking of just having AW upgrade the mobo anyway. Because, I have a rev 5.2. And, I want to upgrade the video card.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you may be without for months.

WHy do you say that?

Well, maybe "months" was a bit of an overstatement, but you never know. I sent mine in for a video card problem, and it has been over 2 months now, and the problem has switched 4 times since then.
Video Card -> Mobo -> Screen -> Cable -> Mobo

(every time the problem switched, I was told the part necessary was on indefinite backorder)

The "ultimate worst-case scenario" is 20 business days, but that's only if everything necessary is in stock. Right now, it seems nothing is in stock, especially anything dealing with screens.

A couple months is unusual BadCS, you must be pulling your hair out...

it took a month and a week not including shipping for mine because of bad mobo.

Am I supposed to get an email or something stating that AW received my laptop?

I was just curious, after a month do you lfip out on them or just accept it as something that is part of the repair process?

Yeah, you're supposed to. I finally called them three weeks after mine had been gone, and they acted surprised that I didn't get any kind of a confirmation or update in that time. I would call if I were you. I never got one update on mine, I had to call or email to find anything out.
Good luck! I am getting mine back on Monday after 9 weeks...

A month is way too long to me. Some of the hardcore Alienware people around here will tell you to just wait patiently, and good things will happen. They told me that it would take 12 business days at the most for my video card, 20 if it were the motherboard. But, of course, they can be out of whatever you need, and the wait can be indefinite. Just keep calling, and hopefully they will try to speed yours up. I probably wouldn't have gotten so much as a phone call yet if I hadn't kept calling and emailing every 3-4 days.
