Hey everyone. Not been here in a while. My 8887 died. The processor, 2.4ghz non HT, is still good. I'm looking for a good desktop mobo that will take this processor. I have got the old 8887 to run for a bit, but now my screen does not even come on. So I'm am going to see what I can do with the processor and other parts. Thanks.

Have you gotten rid of the 8887? Mine will begin to boot and get to the WindowsXP boot screen and then automatically shutdown and reboot.

JimM, if you enter the BIOS (F2 key) on boot up and leave it running just on a BIOS screen does the system stay up or does it reboot?

If it stays up then your CPU and basic system are ok.
With windows you may have a memory issue.
Have you run a memory tester?

Check that first.

If that is ok, get your product recovery CD and boot from that but don't do an install. Just let it sit there at the first prompt. If that is stable you may have a problem with your installed version of windows.

Good luck.

It will run indefinitely at the bios screen, it passes the boot RAM test, I did a repair install and it still reboots.
Maybe I'll try a full re-install.

the boot ram tester is not that thorough.
best test is something like http://www.memtest86.com/

good luck with getting the system to work.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I did try pulling each of the DDR sticks. It feels like a RAM problem. I'll try the RAM test you suggested as well as doing a full re-install.
