7800 in a 9300

Hey all,

I have read a bit but can't find what I am looking for. I think this post is a long ways ago, or I just cant remember where the post is. I am trying to get Dell to send me a 7800 rather than a replacement 6800 because I have had loads of problems with the 6800 and figure I can con Dell into shipping a 7800vanilla (its worth a shot right?) I was just curious if the 7800 fits in the 9300 and uses the stock power adapter for full functionality, or if it needs modifications (heatsink, power adapter, etc)? Thanks!

I don't think anyone has done a vanilla 7800. There are some questions as to whether or not it would fit in a 9300. Ther ewhere some structural changes in the 9400/E1705 chasis over what was used in the 9300.

I believe the go 7800 uses a new interface so it wouldn't install in a 9300.

Go for the 7800GTX anyways, the 7800 isn't worth it, really.

You'd be best off getting a 6800 Ultra, as it will fit, or just break the bank and get a 7800GTX.

Although the plugs are the same on the 6800 and 7800 cards... there is the problem that the Go7800 base model is a different (larger) shape than the 6800/6800Ultra/7800GTX.

Thanks for the replies. I figured I'd try my luck with Dell. I'll see what's up! hah.

It will NOT work. I have tried it. They have reconfigured the standoffs and moved one of the plugs on the new system.
