Where can I snag the latest video drivers for the 64mb Radeon 9600 in my 7405gx? I want to add monitor rotation for my external LCD; my current drivers don't have that feature. Thanks.

maybe try www.omegadrivers.net when i had my ati x700 i used omega worked great for me. but i'm not sure if it includes the monitor rotation :/

Yeah, I'd prefer the normal ATi drivers though. The ones off their website don't work; iirc you need special ones. Hrm...

No, the normal ones ain't what you want. You need the Mobile Catalyst. I'm running Mobile Catalyst 6.1, got straight from ATI.

Ah, I thought I had downloaded the correct ones, guess not - thanks! I just tried out Catalyst 6.3, how horribly horrible. Made my mouse run way fast and made boot time really, really slow and some other fun stuff. 6.1 working okay?

Kadio, the ATI Omgea, and the ATI Catalyst 6.3 didn't work for me, right now I'm using the ATI Catalyst 6.2, for some STRANGE REASON the older ATI Catalyst seems to work better on my 7405GX, so I'm sticking w/ the Older
ATI Catalyst , they do work very well

So 6.2 is working well for you? If so, where can I get that?

Here the funny thing about how I got the 6.2 drivers, I have always use the ATI Drivers that came with my 7405GX, so, one day, I went to control panel, system, device manager, then, display, there I opened it up and saw
that my ATI Drivers were outta date 1/24/04, so, I updated them, where it says (update drivers) it found new drivers and installed them, I didn't have to go the ATI website to get them, now they read 1/24/06, so that's how I got the 6.2 drivers I just updated the old ones, also, some of the old drivers that came w/ my 7405GX have been updated that way, I'm not sure if the Monitor Rotation fuction comes with the 7405GX ATI Original Drivers

I just installed the mobility 6.3 and got my highest 3DMark yet, 1264 at default settings. The Omega based 6.2 got 1228. And i thought Omega's were good. My default drivers got around 1000.

Omega drivers are not built to improve performance. They are built to improve image quality without sacrificing performance. Almost every omega release benches slightly lower than it's Catalyst mother.

I did some tests on my own and the Omega 6.2's actually got better framerates in most games with identical settings . So after hearing about all the problems with 6.3, i switched back to Omega. It does test better in 3DMark whatever thats worth.

catalyst MOBILITY 6.2 download at:
http://www.nordichardware.com/news,3068.html

catalyst mobility 6.3 update (IMO):
- just update the drivers only and NOT the CCC
I m running 6.3 driver "only" at the moment and m VERY pleased with the performance and pic quality. For tweaking ATI Tray works very well for me. BTW, i decided to try the stock 6.3 driver out (FW = on) and it has been very, very stable. For ATI tweak guide, this is good reading:

cheers ...

Downloaded the ATI 6.3 deleted the CCC afterwards, very unstable with the CCC , but was very stable w/ just the drivers, Thanks for the tip, 6.3 does work well without the CCC

I'll give 6.2 a try tomorrow, thanks for the links qhn! Do you know if it supports monitor rotation? I just got a new external LCD that I'd like to be able to rotate for document work. I figure I'll give the various drivers a shot before doing a complete reformat when my new hard drive comes

i used ATI Tray ( http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733 ) for mobility radeon tweak - it does very much what ati CCC does and more, with less resources. and yes, it does have an option to rotate but i m not sure if it can do rotation for the external monitor. PowerStrip (shareware) allows u much more possibilities. u want to check it out and see if it fits ur needs.
cheers ...

Hi there,

Some tips: see if you can D/L MagicRotation somwhere. It works for most GPU's.

Might also work: use PowerStrip and define portrait timings (1200 x 1600 per example). By enabling, most graphics adapters switch to portrait mode, enabled in the driver or not.

6.2 was a no-go for me. I'm working on my fresh install today and loaded them up first thing. cli.exe crashed every time. Had to uninstall and go with the drivers off the recovery DVD. Bummer!

do you have the .NET framework installed? cli.exe uses .NET framework so it'll crash if its not installed

Yup, did all the updates and got all the service packs for it too. Sigh.
