if CAS 5, just search through the site for benchmak comparisons, (there are some problems with the search though, at least for me)
Cas 4

533Mhz Cas 4

t024484, did you ever get the 667 CAS 4?

I had to solve my graphics first, but look here
http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=142801
This clearly shows that already CL5/667 is quite a bit faster than CL4/533.
I will try the CL4/667 in the next few weeks.

ummm... newegg sells a 1GB stick of DDR 667 with CAS 4:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231066

I notice they label it 5400 instead of 5300 like the rest of the 200pin 667's

Thank you much Cheez - added that one to my links for later!

I look forward to someone being able to test this and also see if the Core Duo Dells are able to recognize the CAS4 or if the bios locks it to CAS5.

Thank you for the link though - good eyes!

I highly doubt the BIOS is locked at CAS 5, that wouldn't make any sense. It should detect the timings on the RAM automatically and see it as a CAS 4. Motherboard BIOS's are generally made so that they will detect newer types of memory(ie faster) than what was out when they were made, otherwise upgrading would be pointless. I have no doubt that the E1705/E1505 will see the CAS 4 with no problem.

I do not understand why so many are relying on "I heard from.."
Fact is that 667Mhz/CL5 memory is faster than 533/CL4 memory.
I measured 1GB in a 1.66Mhz 9400.

Despite all the negative undocumented input I have read, the 666Mhz memory is faster even in its CL5 version.
Sandra gave me 3440/3436 against 3680/3672 or roughly 7% faster, and super Pi went from 36.5 to 35.6, which is 2.5% faster.
Of course 667Mhz/CL4 would even be faster, but at least these figures are hard facts.

t024484: I asked in the other thread about this.... were you running the ram in single or dual channel mode?

This is an important distinction.

It is to be expected that 533MHz ram will be noticibly slower than 667 if both are run in single channel.

As I answered in the other thread, I do not test a Ferrari with three wheels.
Yes I has two channels, with two memorysticks in both cases.

Did you ever receive the SoDimms? I'm thinking of ordering a pair myself and I'm very curious about its performance.

Ditto. Newegg.com has some cas 4 667. So I may have to jump on this pending more input.

DarthPierce, thank you for the insightful comments and education on memory speeds and latencies

For my part, I deliberately went with 1GB on the 1710 for now. With 512 vid memory, 1GB will suffice for my MCE needs for now.

But that said, come vista time, I think an upgrade to 2x 2GB sticks of 667 DDR2 is a great option to have. Besides, by then, the price will be down to more manageable levels because availibility should be there.

Stay away from the G.Skill DDR2 667 CAS 4 on Newegg. They are only CAS 4 at 533 Mhz. At 667 they are CAS 5.
The specific memory I am referring to is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231066

how did you get this info crsimms?
I bought some.
CPU-Z, Sandra, and PC Wizard all show the times as CAS 5.

BTW, I did benchmarks (sandra, superpi, 3DMark06, and PC Wizard) of 533 CAS4 vs 667 CAS5. I'll post the results later, but the results were very close.

On newegg, the sticker on the ram says 5400.

So, they're just rebadging old ram eh?

ATM it seems 533MHz cas 3/4 gives more bang for bucks untill a faster 667MHz comes
