i used to be all about all about Trillian as I talk to people on all different chat mediums including one that we use here at work. I kinda got used to gaim, a linux trillian type program so when I'm in windows I use a windows version of gaim and it works great. Uses less memory when running under normal circumstances. I usually kill all the annoying buddy icons and all that junk though so its just a clean basic usable interface for me.

as far as propriatary messenger programs go, yahoo is by far the shiznit.

as far as networks go: oscar.aol.com ftw!

as far as 3rd party progs go: Gaim v2.0beta

I use gaim v2 and mostly for AIM, though sometimes yahoo and ICQ. The only reason i do log into aim is because all my (real) friends are on it.

why is aim so hot in US? back in teh day, before dsl and cable took control, we had a little thing called Dial-up. Naturally AOL/Roadrunner with over 20,000,000 members was the largest provider of such service, and with it came AOL Messanger. So naturally people just started using it. When Compcast Cable /Yahoo+AT&T DSL came into the picture, people already were used to AIM, and they had all their contacts on them, and they were just way too damn lazy to start fresh, so the tradition continued.

I use deadAIM. But I don't get on very often anymore, no time. I will probably be on a little more often in a few months when things have calmed down a little bit though.

I have used gaim but now I use google talk most. Once installed on one pc you can copy over the program folder to anyother pc w/o installing it. I really like that about progs.

I love programs like FileZilla for the exact same reason.

Up here in Canada everyone uses msn. I have an AIM just for a few of my american friends but msn takes the cake.

Skype!

I use skype now it is a lot better than MSN and no adverts
post #55 of 64
how can i use skype if nobody that i know uses it? i mean, i only have friends that are exactly the opposite of geeks, so they only know msn and yahoo. i guess in 10 years they will start to use skype.

ah, about the pool: my answer is: definitely not google talk.

and, yes, i think only americans use aim... =)

Ok a little background knowledge will help me explain better, I am an international student currently attending SC.

Ok for my Friends back home, they all use MSN so I have always used that, after I came to the US I started using AIM because everyone here seems to be using this one.

LOL,

I use skype as my normal phone!

it is far cheaper than AT&T

That's cool. If most of your friends are on a particular messaging system, then unless you can get your friends to switch, you're just going to have to stick with that one.

IMHO all of it suck..
There should be only one.. like there was ICQ long time ago..

good old times..
